Summary
‘Deadly conspiracies, bone-crunching action and a tormented hero with a heart . . . packs a real punch’ Andy McDermott
TO POSSESS IT HE WILL PAY IN BLOOD
Where ex-SAS major Ben Hope goes, trouble always follows…
Ben Hope is trained to identify danger. So when he finds out that someone very important to him is working on a US container ship in the treacherous seas off the East African coast, he fears the worst.
Within days the ship is hijacked by pirates. Taking matters into his own hands, Ben embarks upon the most daring rescue mission of his career … because this is no ordinary hostage situation.
There is something on board the ship that’s more precious than life itself – and a bloodthirsty tyrant will kill to possess it.
As events spiral out of control, Ben Hope’s skill and resourcefulness will be tested like never before. Ben would die to protect those close to him, but in a hostile environment, against ruthless warriors, even the ultimate sacrifice might not be enough…
The Ben Hope series is a must-read for fans of Dan Brown, Lee Child and Mark Dawson. Join the millions of readers who get breathless with anticipation when the countdown to a new Ben Hope thriller begins…
Whilst the Ben Hope thrillers can be read in any order, this is the thirteenth book in the series, and forms a two-part sequence with next book THE DEVIL’S KINGDOM.

Excellent - One of the best Ben Hope books so far
This is only Part 1. Lets hope Part 2 is as good. I have read all the entire Ben Hope series and I think only two books are on par with this one. So far, the story is very different from the previous books as it is not so far fetched, nor are historic facts twisted. That said, Mariano, does take licence and blends two very different every day issues that exist in the African Continent to come up with a great yarn (so far).

Excellent ... but ....
Ok - I have enjoyed all the Ben Hope books in the series so far. They are written in enough detail to give you the information you require in order to enjoy these great action adventures, their settings & the characters. It is a cracking adventure with Ben really carrying so much responsibility... very heavy shoulders ...
Regarding this book - Star of Africa:
1. I would’ve liked to have known in advance that this was the first part in a two book adventure.
2. Although the book is clearly written on the whole by Scott Mariani it does ‘feel’ like there is a ghost or second writer involved....?
3. Whomever wrote the majority of the story seems to have forgotten whom Ex SAS Major Benedict Hope is ... regardless of the complicated feelings between himself & the annoying Jude; son he only recently discovered he had. There are just things that Ben Hope would not have done or considered, and there are other situations where he would’ve just repeated his famous phrase of ‘f@ck it’ and carried on regardless.
In this book we have him putting everybody’s lives in danger due to the sensibilities of his son Jude; myself & many other fans believe Ben Hope would not have done this - it just does not make sense. But hey ho...
4. I don’t have an issue with the details of the violence. The issue that I have is that once you’ve mentioned it a few times for impact, it seems to be completely unnecessary to keep going on and on and it becomes very boring and repetitive - yes it may be needed but not to pad out the pages.
Aside- In the Cassandra Sanction there seems to be a mass of unnecessary unedited research material literally just thrown in - it bored not only me, but bored our Hero & narrator too. We have the same situation here with the brutality of the despotic General Hossa; unedited prose & faulty research too!
Well done Colin Mace for an excellent job!

Good but not typical Mariani
First time I was not so happy with a Ben Hope story. There is the second book for the story, hope Colin Mariani makes it up on the next book🙏🏻
