Summary

A galaxy-spanning story and comics' first bona fide feminist space opera, The Ballad of Halo Jones is the first true epic to grace the bibliography of arguably the greatest comic book writer the world has ever known.

Bored and frustrated with her life in 50th-century leisure-ghetto housing estate 'The Hoop', 18-year-old everywoman Halo Jones yearns for the infinite sights and sounds of the universe. Pledging to escape on a fantastic voyage, she sets in motion events unimaginable; a spell on a luxury space-liner, a brush with an interstellar war - Halo Jones faces hardship and adventure in the name of freedom in the limitless cosmos.

Featuring Sheila Atim as Halo Jones, alongside Ellie Kendrick, Kemah Bob, Michael Fenton Stevens and Yaz Zadeh, with an exciting accomplished cast, existing fans of Halo and newcomers alike will be transported to The Hoop and beyond in an immersive listening experience like no other.

Critic reviews

"The production and flow of the story is brilliantly done and this is easily one of the best adaptations of the story we've ever seen.... The result is simply stunning." (Starburst Magazine)

Brilliant and Fantastic!!

This audiobook brought the wonderful story of Halo Jones to life with marvellous voices. I have read the graphic novel and enjoyed it immensely. It was so pleasurable to hear the characters in dramatic fashion. I enjoyed the audiobook in equal amounts of satisfaction. It was simply fabulous. The music and sound effects coupled with the great narration and voices produced an audio extravaganza. It was awesome. More 2000ad audiobooks, please.

A masterpiece

Still Alan Moore's finest work in my opinion. Sheila Atim is perfect as Halo here.

Always loved first the comic episodes then the graphic novel.
Got this out of nostalgia and it's just as good

a good adaptation

if you've never read the book, this may well be confusing at times, but as a companion it works well, with almost nothing changed from the original.

Hanging out with Halo Jones

The Ballad of Halo Jones is one of the best stories I have read. This version is really well done. it has a great cast and is basically the entire story as a play rather than narrated. Wish more books were done this way. If you like Halo this is worth the money.

Hooplife Hero

Still as important to me as it was when I first read it. Excellent narration and it brought it to life and still left wondering.... Come on Alan give us book 4!!

Halo Jones, childhood hero, comes to life

So I bought the Halo Jones Audio Book on Audible and pretty much listened to it in one stint.

Now I've been a massive Halo fan since it first came out (I was just 16). I have the full graphic novel on my book shelf still.

My son was never into Comic Books as a kid but Halo was the one I DID insist he read :)

So, how was it?

Excellent. I thought the actors really brought the characters to life and sounded pretty much as I used to imagine them. I liked the addition of Halo narrating certain parts (It was a comic strip!) but doing it as she was writing letters.
They were so believable that my memory often brought back some of the images from the strip - especially the war on Moab.
It ended well and I'm sure people new to Halo will be saying "Okay, what happened next? When do we get Part 2?" - I'd have to be gentle and say, we've been waiting 35 years for Volume 4, don't hold your breath.....

Overall, I'd have to give it 10/10. It brought one of my childhood favourites to a whole new level and I'm not really sure how it could have been better.

Very disappointing

So confusing, listened to vol 1 but gave up. I like Alan Moore’s work but this wasn’t very good.
