About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

This audiobook in The Thursday Murder Club series is read by a new narrator, Fiona Shaw.

A new mystery is afoot in the third book in the Thursday Murder Club series from record-breaking, bestselling author Richard Osman.

This audiobook includes an exclusive interview between Richard Osman and journalist and TV presenter Steph McGovern.

It is an ordinary Thursday, and things should finally be returning to normal.

Except trouble is never far away where the Thursday Murder Club are concerned. A local news legend is on the hunt for a sensational headline, and soon the gang are hot on the trail of two murders, ten years apart.

To make matters worse, a new nemesis pays Elizabeth a visit, presenting her with a deadly mission: kill or be killed...

While Elizabeth grapples with her conscience (and a gun), the gang and their unlikely new friends (including TV stars, money launderers and ex-KGB colonels) unravel a new mystery. But can they catch the culprit and save Elizabeth before the murderer strikes again?

Really Enjoyed Listening

I wasn't sure about the change in narrator/performer to begin with. Having got so used to Lesley Manville and how good she was. I did so enjoy Fiona shaw's voice though, soon got past that initial uncertainty. As ever with this series i am impressed with the skill of the writer and his ability to create character and judge situations. The plots are, of course, complete tosh from start to finish but they are high class tosh and the tragedy of some of the central characters that grow from book to book is frequently very moving. Now for the actual book.

Don’t let negative reviews about the narration influence - this is terrific!

I am only six chapters into this book and have already laughed out loud more times than I can count. The change of narrator has absolutely NOT taken anything away from the fun of the story, or the characters in this cracking new romp.

The reason I am reviewing now, is having read so many negative comments about a change of narrator, I want to reassure anyone having second thoughts about buying it, that Fiona Shaw is absolutely superb.

Within minutes I had completely settled into the story and was already invested in the characters - new and old! She has captured our old friends brilliantly and manages the nuances of mood and tone, twists and turns, ups and downs with real skill. I am laughing (just as I did with the fabulous Lesley Manville) and enjoying the book just as much as I hoped I would.

I’m sorry Lesley Manville hasn’t carried on with this series but honestly, Fiona Shaw is a clever and very, very able successor.

SO RELAX, BUY THE BOOK AND IMMERSE YOURSELF BACK IN THE MURKY AND EXCITING WORLD OF THE RESIDENTS OF COOPERS CHASE.

Fiona Shaw is the PERFECT narrator for this book

I don't know why so many people are objecting to Fiona Shaw narrating the latest in this series. Elizabeth brings to mind the narrator's character Carolyn Martens from Killing Eve, there are no flies on Elizabeth! Really enjoyed the plot & story and very much enjoyed Fiona's narration.

Is it Lesley no, but Fiona has done an amazing job

No it's not Leslie but I think Fiona has done a great job. Most importantly Richard Osmans writing and humor still come through like they did in the first 2 books and I can't wait to hear the next one.

People abandoning this because it’s not Lesley

You are missing a gem. I think Lesley is brilliant, and while it took me a couple of chapters to get used to Fiona, her narration was five star. The plot was typical Osman…perfect.

Worth getting over the change of narrator… eventually

It is a real shame about the change of narrator, as so many others have said. At first I was saddened and distracted by it, especially because the new one has a soft Irish accent. I feel sorry for her being handed a poisoned chalice like that… surely the audio release date could have been pushed back. But anyway… I did stick with it and eventually got used to the change. I did enjoy it and I did laugh plenty of times. The new narrator did caputure the familiar speech patters well, so there was some continuity. Worth sticking with

Where is Lesley Manville?

Such a disappointing start to the long awaited sequel as the voicing of our trusted friends by a new narrator is distracting me from the storyline. Having taken a few attempts to get beyond the narration change, the storyline is just what you'd expect from Richad Osman in his handling of our plucky seniors in this tale as they show its never to late to be brilliant. Love the crafting of these precious characters, just a plea to bring back their original voices as translated by the wonderful Lesley Manville.

Excellent reading by Fiona Shaw. Great story.

I very nearly didn't get this because of all the bad reviews re Lesley Manville's MIA. Fortunately, one reviewer said to ignore the fuss. I'm glad I did. I like Ms Manville but Fiona Shaw is every bit as good at interpreting Richard Osman's prose and characters. I am only about a quarter into the book but had to defend the narration against all the dreadful reviews.
