About this listen

From the dark mind behind the DCI Matilda Darke series, comes the next novel in a twisty and gripping new series. Dr Olivia Winter is back. And she’s got a brand new case to solve.

A BRUTAL MURDER

When Isaac McFadden is found with the dismembered body of a young man in the boot of his car, it’s an easy conviction for the jury. But, then a notebook is discovered in Isaac’s house, and the police believe they have a serial killer on their hands.

A CRYPTIC CODE

Within the pages of the notebook is a chart written in a code, which DI Linus Sutton believes holds the location of more bodies. Made up of seemingly random words, numbers and symbols, and with a suspect who is refusing to talk, Sutton enlists the help of Forensic Psychologist Dr Olivia Winter.

THE FINAL GIRL

Having previously survived attacks from two killers, Olivia is the real life ‘final girl’. But can she unlock the code before her luck runs out?

Great read

I've been really looking forward to this, having very much enjoyed the first in the series, and it didn't disappoint. It kept me engrossed from start to finish. I did correctly guess one of the main reveals early on and stuck with it, despite there being a questionable practicality, which isn't actually explained (unless I missed it). Other than that, it was well-plotted, had good characterisation and was well-narrated.

Another really good listen

Really enjoyed the who dunnit like feel of the book. Brilliant listen as all Michael's books are. Hope there will be another one soon

Didn't see the ending

Michael Wood creates the perfect character with Olive Winter. The book can be read as a stand alone but is also a great follow on from Book one. Can't wait for Book 3!

Gripping and Twisty

Superb story and narration. I listened to the book in two days as couldn’t wait to find out what happened.

Excellent from start to finish

Once again a fantastic listen. Keeps you guessing till the very end. Parts of the story are extremely sad without giving the story away. I thought I'd guessed the ending but nope !!! I can't wait for the next book.

Fantastic !!!

The story as always from Michael Wood was good but the narrator is very flat and needs an injection of personality. She is very wooden and at times put me off the whole book that I had to turn it off and come back to it.
Apart from that, I enjoyed another great story from Michael Wood

Narrator needs to liven up a bit

Very gruesome in parts 🤢 and guessed the plot and perpetrators half way through - but still a very good book. Listened over 2 days - kept me that engrossed! Love all Michael Wood books - this was possibly one of the weakest. Nonetheless - I still loved it and would recommend

Worth the credit
