About this listen

Why is it that despite our best efforts, many of us remain fundamentally unhappy and unfulfilled in our lives? In this provocative and inspiring audiobook, David Richo distills 30 years of experience as a therapist to explain the underlying roots of unhappiness - and the surprising secret to finding freedom and fulfillment. There are certain facts of life that we cannot change - the unavoidable "givens" of human existence: (1) everything changes and ends, (2) things do not always go according to plan, (3) life is not always fair, (4) pain is a part of life, and (5) people are not loving and loyal all the time.

Richo shows us that by dropping our deep-seated resistance to these givens, we can find liberation and discover the true richness that life has to offer. Blending Western psychology and Eastern spirituality, including practical exercises, Richo shows us how to open up to our lives - including to what is frightening, painful, or disappointing - and discover our greatest gifts.

Absolutely brilliant - I love this book!

A breath of fresh air!
Such depth of knowledge, wisdom and truths about life, pain and suffering. Through it all, one can discover the profound meaning and purpose of life. This book has helped me understand and answered the question “why me?”. There is such joy and peace in the embracing of the methodologies recommended in this book. All things do happen for a reason and ‘what was meant for evil is turned for my good’. I am on the right track. And I am not alone but accompanied by a loving God, in the making of being fully and completely who I was made to be. A massive thank you!!

Really great book on personal development

I enjoyed listening to this book and will in fact listen to it again because if we could all practice what it says, we would all be so much happier or at the very least content. I wish the audio could have been much louder because even listening to it at the highest volume I struggled to hear the reader. But overall great book.

Summery of what many people share

Want to learn more about yourself? Want to be kinder? With more empathy for others and yourself? Are you curious about Buddhism and other religions? Then you have heard about this and that. This book brings it all to light 💡 I really appreciate its content and the person who reads it has a very plaisant voice. It’s full of golden nuggets that made me stop in my thinking and even if I had heard much it before - as I’m reading a lot of stuff like this now - it was never boring nor tedious but interesting and useful in my further discovery of my inner world.

Everyone needs a listen

As the title says: I think everyone needs a listen. There are lessons and truths in there which can be easy to forget at times but it’s nice to have a reminder. The narrators voice was very calm and soothing and made the experience that much more enjoyable
