About this listen

Twenty-five years ago, a local girl went missing. Now, another girl comes back…

When five-year-old Elsie Button was snatched from a garden in a sleepy town on the Welsh island of Anglesey, and a local man later confessed, it sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community. How could one of their own do such a thing? Especially when his own little girl was the same age – and the victim's best friend.

Kathryn and her family left under the cloak of darkness one night, unable to bear the shame, and the anger of their neighbours. She hardly remembers that time. Now, she suffers the consequences of living under an assumed name, always looking over her shoulder. Her dad has not spoken a word to her since he went to prison. She is haunted by the question: why did he kill Elsie?

When another child is taken from the same garden, twenty-five years to the day of Elsie's murder, Kathryn is determined that this time she'll be on the right side. She'll join the search and atone for her father's deed, and maybe, just maybe, get the answers she wants. But she's not prepared for the long memory of the locals, nor the risks of going back. Not everyone on the island wants the truth to come out, and they'll go to extreme lengths to stop that from happening.

A gripping must-listen psychological thriller from the #1 bestselling author Jenny Blackhurst. Unmissable for fans of K. L. Slater, C. L. Taylor and S. E. Lynes.

An intriguing story, quite enthralling without losing its credible narrative.
Excellent character development.
Very engaging read.

An excellent thriller

I feel like I didn’t connect with Catharine at all. I liked aspects but she wasn’t sympathetic enough to hold me. The investigation has giant plot holes and I disliked the portrayal of some of the characters.

Slightly unbelievable

This had me gripped. It is a great story and is nicely narrated. Highly recommend.

Brilliant

I liked the narration, the story was fine apart from the twist, which relies on intelligent people unilaterally making the most nonsensical decisions. like cutting your leg off when if you stub your toe

well performed but it's linchpin is a bit wobbly

The story did not hold my attention and I wanted it to be more engaging.

Good narration

I really enjoyed this book. Its been a while since I was hooked on a book like this. a really good twist as well. I didn't expect that twist which I love! kept me guessing. brilliant. Will try other books by the same author. well paced narrator but accents all the same unfortunately. you expect more these days.

Loved it all, would recommend, not too demanding as I like to go to sleep with audible
Well thought out story line and a good ending , nothing to disappoint.

Couldn’t stop listening to, almost all in one go

Was hesitant about this book as really didn't enjoy another by this author. But really enjoyed this one. I couldn't stop listening. Kept wondering was I right about twists or plots. The only person I couldn't stand was the main detective. I think she's meant to be written as independent and "cool". Instead she came across as cruel and arrogant. I kept hoping she'd be caught in her affair. But. who knows. if books keep going.....

Really enjoyed

It s not the best book I ever read but couldn’t put it down !!! It kept me curiouse

Good mystery

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Although slightly unrealistic, it still makes an engrossing listen and a tragic tale. The beginning of chapter 1, did seem a little superfluous in it's content and language as it had no consequence within the book, but the rest of the story flowed well with a good twist.

gripping listen
