In the late 1980s, a spectacular three-year-old female racehorse named Winning Colors was being groomed for success under her famous Hollywood trainer D. Wayne Lukas and the billionaire owner of the San Diego Chargers pro-football team Eugene Klein.
Meanwhile, three fun-loving gamblers Miami Paul, Dino Mateo, and Big Bernie believed that Winning Colors could be the unlikely female winner of the 1988 Kentucky Derby. When the gamblers unknowingly place their long shot bet with members of a suspected drug cartel at a racetrack in Tijuana, Mexico, they must figure out how to claim their prize - without getting killed in the process.
In a heart-pounding race of their own across the US-Mexico border, the trio come face-to-face with suspected killers, are arrested by the Border Patrol, and fumble their way through the riskiest bet of their lives.

What a fantastic story
I am a horse racing fan,I even like a bet and this story resonated with me on so many levels.It was exciting, funny and so well written, I never slept all night listening to it.
You dont have to be a racing fan to enjoy it, it's a fantastic story that would make a brilliant film and I hope one day it is

Love of horses
As this is a true story the awesome ending is every bit as thrilling , didn’t disappoint I googled even more……

Very enjoyable
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the book really did it for me.
Fast moving, good narration and a story that could, with more artistic licence be made into a film. Enjoy!

Exciting
An absolute pleasure of a story!
Everything was perfect for me!
The storyteller was superb!

Disappointed
Book starts really well giving insight into the not so well known world of big time US horse racing in the 80s and the colourful figures that inhabit it but then switches focus to a dull gambling tale with uninteresting central characters. Cartel angle doesn't really deliver at all either. Couldn't recommend this
