Summary

The life of a courtesan in Pompeii is glittering, yet precarious....

Amara has escaped her life as a slave in the town's most notorious brothel, but now her existence depends on the affections of her patron: a man she might not know as well as she once thought.

At night, she dreams of the wolf den, still haunted by her past. Amara longs for the women she was forced to leave behind and worse, finds herself pursued by the man who once owned her. In order to be free, she will need to be as ruthless as he is.

Amara knows her existence in Pompeii is subject to Venus, the goddess of love. Yet finding love may prove to be the most dangerous act of all.

We return to Pompeii for the second instalment in Elodie Harper's Wolf Den Trilogy, reimagining the lives of the women from the town's lupanar.

Best book this year!

So glad that I came across this talented author. It's the second book in the trilogy and it gets even better all the time. The story keeps you tightly gripped from beginning to end, totally immersing you into the times long gone. Roman Empire with lives of ordinary and not so ordinary people trying to survive, make a living, love and be loved, often having to make great sacrifices for such privilege.
Narration is quite exceptional. Thank you Ms Harper and Ms Beamish for a rare gem of a book. Can't wait for the next one.

Great story, strong women.

The story of enslaved women is powerful and difficult to listen to aometimes. But what well drawn characters and beautifully narrated. Roll on part three!

a great continuation of the story

Second in the series, taking the characters on a new journey and whilst not as good as the first book it was a compelling story. Once again the characters are one to believe and the storyline flows wonderfully, can't wait for the third book

The story is not as compelling as the first book

The character of the protagonist changes and she does many things inconsistent with her character in the previous book and with a person who has been through a trauma, in my opinion.

Can’t wait for the next book

Loved this book, even more so than the wolf den. Narrator is great at voicing the different characters.

Amazing

The narrator of this book is incredible. The way she can change the intonation of her voice for each character is amazing

Another Triumph!

After having read The Wolf Den, I couldn’t wait for the second book in this trilogy to be released and just like the first book in this series, I couldn’t bear the thought of reaching the end, knowing it is probably going to be another year or so before I will know how the whole story concludes.
I have been fortunate enough to have visited Pompeii twice in my life and have always had a keen interest in ancient history. Having been there and experienced the landscape and the streets of the ancient city has definitely enriched my experience and enjoyment of this novel.
I also think the narrator deserves a mention for her expertise in bringing all of Elodie Harper’s characters to life in such a captivating way.
Loved it!

Better than the first

Sometimes a trilogy takes a while to get going. Thought the first was okay, this is better. Character development and plot is better. Suspecting there will be a happy ending in book three though. The narrator suited this book and an older Amara better.

Excellent follow up to the wolf den

İf the previous book was about what will happen to Amara, this is more about will Amara lose it all. İn a way I found it more tense. Now that things are changing once again in her life, can't wait for the third book!
