Summary

"The Jealousy Cure unlocks the positive power of jealousy for happy relationships." (Foreword Reviews)

"Solid counsel for those whose relationships are plagued by jealousy and the individuals it targets." (Library Journal)

Could jealousy be a positive thing? In this groundbreaking book, Robert L. Leahy - author of the hugely popular self-help guide, The Worry Cure - invites you to gain a greater understanding of your jealous feelings, keep jealousy from hijacking your life, and create healthier relationships.

We’ve all heard tales of the overly jealous spouse or significant other. Maybe we’ve even been that jealous person, though we may not want to admit it. It’s hard to imagine anyone sailing through life without either having feelings of jealousy or being the target of someone’s jealousy. But what if jealousy isn’t just a neurotic weakness? What if it signals that your relationship matters to you? In short - what if jealousy serves a purpose?

In The Jealousy Cure, renowned psychologist Robert L. Leahy takes a more nuanced approach to tackling feelings of jealousy. In this compelling book, you’ll uncover the evolutionary origins of jealousy, and how and why it’s served to help us as a species. You’ll also learn practices based in emotional schema theory, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness to help you overcome the shame jealousy can bring, improve communication with your partner, and ultimately make room for jealousy while also making your relationship more meaningful. You will learn that confronting jealousy in your relationship does not have to be a catastrophe, but can redirect you and your partner to build more trust, acceptance, and connection.

We often feel jealous because we fear losing the things or people that matter to us the most. With this insightful guide, you’ll discover how jealousy can both help and hurt your relationship, and learn proven-effective skills to keep jealousy in its place.

Great Book easy to relate to

I enjoyed this book, it made me realise it's normal to think most things. I would read parts and come out wanting to better my self. I wouldn't say it gets rid of your jelousy obviously but it helps you to think about your actions.

the jealously cure

I gain a lot from this book. it helped me understand her behaviour towards me from age 14. Her jealously shaped her life and she blame everyone else for her mis fotunes & actively choose to hurt them. this is a powerful book & will help me support her.

helped me out

This book really helped me understand my jealousy and gave me handy solutions. I do actually feel better and have improved my relationship. The only problem was the narrator was very boring at first but I soon got used to it.

Some sensible advice and evidence based

Jealousy is ubiquitous but whatever the truth of it all, our responses to jealousy frequently make a difficult situation worse.

The fundamental point is to learn to see jealousy as a valid emotion, but with a degree of attachment that allows choice and rational decision making in this most irrational and painful of contexts. My metaphor was to invoke an inner “David Attenborough” able to see this beast as not something to suppress, but something to heed, to see as a warning, to learn from but not to be driven by. Some forms of jealousy, like retrospective jealousy, are driven by unrealistic expectations and a perfectionism that has no place in reality.

I have experienced very extreme jealousy due to betrayal, and it’s an awful feeling. I have made many of the mistakes outlined. It has made me recognise the unhealthiness of relationships in the past, and has taken me to better places albeit through great pain.

I think one aspect that isn’t explored quite so much is the recognition that jealousy often betrays our anxieties about possible inadequacies. Instead of facing up to these we project jealousy, and of course the irony is this often achieves what we fear most - relationship breakdown or ironically infidelity. Of course the other side of the coin is that far from reflecting on the victim, infidelity often reflects either problems in the relationship, or inadequacies of the cheater.

But as the book underlines, it’s complicated!

Completely changed my thinking

One of the most helpful audio books I've listened to in a long time. After being unexpectedly and unusually gripped by jealousy in a new relationship I wasn't quite sure how to navigate my way through it. This book helped me see that I wasn't alone in what I was feeling and provided many tools and insights as to how to reframe it in my mind. Great content narrated by a lovely calming voice. Has definitely helped me to manage my way through waves of a horrible and consuming emotion.
