When I first started listening to The Last Survivors I thought I’d made a mistake choosing these books, I thought “this isn’t my cup of tea!” But was I wrong! I’m so glad I persevered as I grew to love listening to them, the story grows on you and is brilliantly written but what made it was the narrator Sean Runnette, he has a perfect voice for narrating, doesn’t try to put on silly voices and accents which really annoys me and spoils the listen, he just reads it perfectly. Well worth a listen.

Set in a society 300 years in the future which has declined due to an unknown infection has killed off most of the population by those infected becoming flesh eating mutants.
Though this sounds like a typical zombie plot it is not. The story line has more in common with a political power plot and the difference between good and bad and between men and women. What I found difficult to accept was how much humanity declined in 300 years, with the majority of the people being so ignorant - unable to read or write, with no knowledge of the past or having any major skills - it is nearly as if society has reverted to a stone/early iron age.
The authors open up quite a few interesting plot lines. These could have been developed much further by replacing a lot of unnecessary storyline which I thought was rather over long in places.
But apart from the overlong prose, this series does have a lot going for it and does provide enough to be worth reading and is a reasonable standard story for its genre with a few novel plot lines to provide a diversion on a wet summers day.

it's a long listen 6 books,but I must say I really enjoyed the story and characters the narrator was excellent and really brought the story to life, I agree with other comments and keep listening it gets really good and your imagination will take you to many places...definitely would reccomend if you like undead and post apocalyptic stories.

Bought this as a time filler whilst waiting on another book release. Loved this book. Very different and interesting take on the longer term outcome of an Apocalypse. Have just downloaded the sequel.

Wow! such a good listen. The book is based 300 years in the future after a post apocalyptic event and takes you on a journey with a group of people with whom reading, writing, science and technology are all things of the past. They must fight to survive against demons and barbaric leaders. The characters are written and narrated so well, in times of peril you cant help but keep listening to know the outcome. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
