Summary

Some doors are locked for a reason....

While 11-year-old Nora Davis was up in her bedroom doing homework, she had no idea her father was killing women in the basement.

Until the day the police arrived at their front door.

Decades later, Nora's father is spending his life behind bars, and Nora is a successful surgeon with a quiet, solitary existence. Nobody knows her father was a notorious serial killer. And she intends to keep it that way.

Then Nora discovers one of her young female patients has been murdered. In the same unique and horrific manner that her father used to kill his victims.

Somebody knows who Nora is. Somebody wants her to take the fall for this unthinkable crime. But she's not a killer like her father. The police can't pin anything on her.

As long as they don't look in her basement.

Good twisty story - bad narration

I never worked this book out!
I usually do, clever twist
Really enjoyed the story but the narration was a bit like a robot
Persevered due to the story and love her books but the narration, it did have me cringe a few times
Worth a listen definitely or read !?

Not great 😢💔

This suspense story was extremely boring. I loved several elements of it and it had all the correct ingredients to make a perfect thriller, yet the promise of it never quite gets realized.
The story goes back (26 years ago) where we see some of her redefining moments. And present day, where everyone is a suspect and we form a bunch of theories that are most likely wrong.
The plot twists were good and I was shouting at Nora often. I really disliked her.
Another problem was the narration: the narration was terrible, not badly executed, but a terrible voice.

Narration was not very good

The story is ok, and it has a few nice twists. But the narration makes it very difficult to listen.

Did not finish

The storyline had great potential to be a good read but I DNF! I just could not get past the narrating. I love Freida McFadden but sadly the narrator did me in.

Wow what a thriller!

I really enjoyed this book. It was exciting and kept me guessing to the end.
The characters were really likeable and the plot unfolds in two time lines. It’s cleverly written keeping both time lines suspenseful.
A really enjoyable read.

A good listen

Story was good, I only guessed the outcome towards the end, some good details in there which I really enjoyed.
Narration was super annoying though, almost stopped listening but I do love Freida McFadden books so I stuck with it.

keeps you guessing!

I like that you are led on a suspense trail and potentially jump to the wrong conclusions...

The narration ruins what I assume would be another McFadden gem!

I love this author so much but I couldn’t get through this book because of the narrator! I made it through 7 chapters but just couldn’t take anymore!
I have given the story 5 stars because it is Freda McFadden and she always delivers so I assume it would have been another smash!
However, I wish I had read the reviews first and not blindly downloaded another of her books because the narrator’s voice is like nails on a chalkboard!
She also pauses in weird places and annunciates in a very strange way! It is like when an actor over acts! She over narrates!
Such a shame- but I will just have to buy the book and read it myself!

EDITED TO ADD- I finished the book. It is not her best story unfortunately- far too predictable. I have edited my score to reflect.

I liked the narration!

Once you give it a chapter the narration is very good, the narrator has lots of characters to portray & I think she does it well.

Story is good but does go on a bit toward the middle but I actually I found it enjoyable on the whole esp for a free book!
