Summary

They thought she was the victim, but they're the ones in danger....

Imagine a helpless, pregnant 16-year-old who's just been yanked from the serenity of her home and shoved into a dirty van. Kidnapped.... Alone.... Terrified. Now forget her....

Picture instead a pregnant, 16-year-old, manipulative prodigy. She is shoved into a dirty van and, from the first moment of her kidnapping, feels a calm desire for two things: to save her unborn son and to exact merciless revenge.

She is methodical - calculating - scientific in her plotting. Leaving nothing to chance, she waits...for the perfect moment to strike. The Method is what happens when the victim is just as cold as the captors.

Critic reviews

"Completely original and totally kick ass! Shannon Kirk pulls no punches in this adrenaline rush of a thriller where the victim is the one to watch, while the kidnappers learn to fear. Loved it!" (Lisa Gardner)
"Riveting...a thrilling new voice in crime fiction." (Boston Globe)
"[The narrator's] willpower and ingenuity prove more than a match for the callous brutality of those who wish her ill as this exciting tale builds to a surprising climax." (Publishers Weekly)

A different kind of thriller

This is a very different kind of thriller and a very enjoyable listen. I've slowed down on my listening to books this past couple of months, but this book caught my imagination immediately and I listened in two sittings! Not only a different story line, but a different kind of heroine and very different plot twists! It's not classic literature, but will give you some interesting hours listening.

Monotonous

A thriller with a view from a different angle, it was not for me, continued with loads of unnecessary dialogue ~ boring.

Disappointing

What did you like best about The Method? What did you like least?

Some elements were interesting but nothing really stood out,

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It seemed to be lacking realism - despite implying that it could happen. Yes what took place could happen, but it was incredibly far fetched. Maybe some background as to the inherent skills the captive possessed and thus how they were then employed may have helped.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I found the female accents to be very grating. Overtly nasal and sounding nothing like I would personally imagine a 16 year old girl to sound.... it detracted from the story.

Did The Method inspire you to do anything?

Not read anything else by the author....

A great listen.

I enjoyed this story enormously. The main character was very appealing and both the narrators did a good job. I also liked that the story went on after the resolution of the crime so that you found out how the characters were affected. I had not listened to this author before but I am hoping she has more titles to enjoy.

Excellent - kept me gripped

What did you like best about this story?

Kept me gripped, I wanted/cared about the main characters. Good twist in the middle.

What does Allyson Ryan and Greg Watanabe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I don't usually like two narrators but this time is really worked.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was very satisfied with the ending - did not make me wonder what happened later. Also there could be a follow story with the characters.... if there there I was I would certainly have it!
