About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

They called me The Morrigan. I was magnificent. I was multitudes.
They twisted my story, stripped me away. But I will tell it now in my own voice.
It begins, as all the best stories do, in darkness.

From an ancient, storm-tossed sea, a tribe of gods reach the rocky shores of Ireland.
Among them, a strange, hungry, red-haired girl. A girl who can change shape, from bird to beast to goddess. A girl who dreams of battle, of blood, of death and power.

She does not know yet that a woman who seeks to rule will always be in danger – or that there are far more treacherous figures in this land than the gods who raised her.

She does not know that one day love will burn so deep in her heart that its scars will never heal. That she will know pain so raw and pure it will almost tear her apart.

She does not know that her journey will take a thousand years. That her name will be remembered for a thousand more.

She is The Morrigan, and she is waiting: a girl with rage coiled in her chest. Beautiful, powerful, ravenous rage. A rage that will live forever.

An electric retelling of Ireland’s mythic goddess of war, from a bold and powerful voice.

I love hate this book. I loved the irish womans voice that read up. And the story but hated the "only men can role".

The brutality of war.

The retelling of the Irish folklore but putting personalities on the characters. The development of the Morrigan is excellent.

An epic, visceral retelling of Irish mythology through the eyes and righteous female rage of The Morrigan, Celtic goddess of war and fate. A song - a battle-cry - to the strength of women, sung in rich and passionate poetry.

I simply love this book. A true epic story told over thousands of years. Brilliantly read with great supporting characters in Queen Maeve and Cu Chulainn.

Loved this retelling of all the myths from my childhood. Kim Curran has brought the tales kicking and screaming into 21st Century, modernising them for both new and old readers. Narrator is brilliant too! Mairead is a great actress and she has brought her skills to the narration!

Mairead read this gorgeously! I chose the audio because no matter what, my brain cannot wrap itself around Gaelic words and names. And I’m so glad I did. The narration was perfect for Morrigan’s story.

Gorgeous Narration to Ireland’s greatest myth

From beginning to end I was captivated. A wonderful piece of literature. I am about to listen again as I was just spellbound.

“For when women realize that raging alone is like screaming into the wind, but raging together, raising their voices as one, is when they can change the world, that is when the time of men will be over.”

10 stars.
