About this listen

A woman on the run. A crew of Viking mercenaries. A forbidden romance. And the secret that threatens them all.

Silla Nordvig is running for her life.

The Queen of Íseldur has sent warriors to bring Silla to Sunnavík, where death awaits her. When her father is killed, his last words set Silla on a perilous quest: travel the treacherous Road of Bones—a thousand-mile stretch haunted by warbands, creatures of darkness, and a mysterious murderer—and go to Kopa, where a shield house awaits her.

After barely surviving the first stretch of road, a desperate Silla sneaks into a supply wagon belonging to the notorious Bloodaxe Crew. To make it to Kopa, she must win over Axe Eyes, the brooding leader of the Crew, while avoiding the Wolf, his distractingly handsome right-hand man. But the queen's ruthless assassin has other plans and hunts Silla obsessively.

Will Silla make it safely to Kopa? Or will she fall prey to the perils of the Road of Bones?

Featuring an immersive world blending fairy tales with Vikings, The Road of Bones leads you on an adrenaline-fueled chase with fun banter and a slow-building enemies-to-lovers romance. It is book one in the Ashen Series.

So glad I heard about this book just in time for the second one to come out!! It’s really really good, feels new but also has everything I’ve enjoyed from other fantasy romances

Waaaay better than ACOTAR

Excellent fantasy. Dark with some violent scenes. Narration really brings the female characters through. With some romantic elements. Twists were great. Some were a surprise, others I could see with some foreshadowing in the writing.

Fantasy with strong and flawed 3D characters.

Overall, I found this book to be a really good gripping fantasy novel. It started out very strong and instantly manages to pull you in to the life of Silla. It's action packed and full of many details that allows the rich nordic/pagan story and setting to unfold in your mind.

The characters are very deep, witty and unpredictable. The members of the blood axe crew are some of the best, I hope to see more of them and to see where Rey and Silla end up on there journey.

There was a few chapters that were repetitive and I felt that they didn't really need to be there, but it did allow the connections between characters to grow, it just didn't add much to the over arching plot.

Its unlikely I will continue reading the next installment but only because there are many trigger warnings, graphic and explicit content. I prefer safe cosy books ☺️ If anyone else continues, I would love to hear how it continues. I would especially want to know more about the galdra, magic system and the history of the world.

Gripping Fantasy

Loved this so much! A bit confusing at first as the audio didn't make any distinction when changing POVs so might have been better to read it physically but I loved the characters and storyline and once I got to know the characters the changing POV was fine on audio! The magic is super intriguing! LOVE that she's a baker not a fighter! Can't wait for the next book!! So excited it will be released on audible next month!!

Adored! 5 star romantasy

Fabulous story driven book, with twists I just didn’t see coming. Well narrated so glad someone else had to pronounce those names.
