Summary

If only I could remain young while the picture grows old. For that I’d give anything....

When Dorian Gray, a handsome young man about town, makes this wish, he can hardly guess that it will mark the beginning of a life of hedonism and debauchery. Soon enough his webs of deception and deceit catch innocent victims, some of them his closest friends, and the only evidence of his misdeeds is a long-forgotten portrait in his attic....

Oscar Wilde’s notorious novel is presented in this tense, full-cast audiobook adaptation, dramatised by David Llewellyn.

The release also includes the first episode of 'The Confessions of Dorian Gray: This World Our Hell' and a selection of James Dunlop’s music from the series.

Why the music?

I very much enjoyed The Picture of Dorian Gray. All of the cast delivered first class performances. However, I feel let down because from chapter 46 to the end chapter 62, - around 32 minutes - were filled with music. If I'd wanted music I would download music. But I wanted more of Oscar Wilde's Dorian Gray.

Wonderfully atmospheric, brilliantly told.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Picture of Dorian Gray (Dramatized) to be better than the print version?

I don't consider it better, just another way to enjoy the book.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to any other narrations by Alexander Vlahos but I will now. He brought a lot to this wonderful novel.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I bought it to tap into when I can and have really enjoyed it.

Any additional comments?

Brilliant novel. Brilliant narrator. Mr Vlahos has a smooth voice and was very easy to listen to. Definitely a find.

Ahead of it's time

We sometimes forget that Oscar Wilde was writing in the late 19th century . Revisiting his works recently i see he was ahead of his time in so many ways. Performance excellent especially Alex Valhos whose easy to listen to characterisation of Gray and story narration adds to the enjoyment. Highly recommended
