Really very good 👍🏽
I liked this book. It was different from the other thrillers I've enjoyed.
The narration flowed, the storyline strong ... The characters are realistic. Not my usual author, but I'll certainly be happy to read/listen to further books by them. Easy listening and straightforward. Definitely a 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Really enjoyable thriller
I really enjoyed this book, it was one of those that I was listening to at every and any opportunity! I figured out the main aspects of the plot early on, but that made it thrilling in the way it does when you're watching, say, a murder programme, and the viewer knows who the murderer is, but the people in the drama don't, and you just want them to figure it out! I definitely recommend this book and will be reading more from this author. Good narration too, really got the dead-pan feel of the main character across.

Solid plot
Good writing but of all the murderous plot twist’ stories on audible, the plot twist concept wasn’t strong enough. Worth a listen still

Not the best but ok
I purchased this after listening to a previous title from this author, but it was no way near as good. The story line was ok but didn’t have me wanting to keep listening, found it very boring in parts.

Devilishly Delicious
What a roller coaster of twisted turns and down right deviousness
Talk about one up manship on each other and a race to the end!
Some reviews have been bloody cruel regarding the narrator.... Is that what we're doing now in 2023?
I thought she was very good, I loved the definition of each character
Rose isn't what she seems, Eloïse is a crazy lady, Julliette was just in love and it all comes to a head!!!
Enjoy

Not as thriller as I would've liked
So this is a good book. It's definitely a thriller but not as much as I would've hoped. it's fairly predictable and there wasn't a storyline that made me wanting to continue listening with a plot twist. The way the book has been both written and narrated is really good though.

Lots of background thudding in narration
Story line was okay, a few discrepancies in it. The noises in the narration was a bit distracting for me

crime without police side
as always well paced and constructed crime drama without police being a main character nor even involved.

Predictable Plot with Overblown Characters
A.J McDine's "Promise You Made" revolves around Rose, who vowed to help her goddaughter Eloise if ever in trouble. This premise ignites when Eloise appears bloodied at Rose's doorstep, requesting something unthinkable. What should unfold as a thrilling exploration of buried secrets and moral dilemmas unfortunately falls short.
Despite an intriguing concept, I found the predictable storytelling and exaggerated characters hinder execution. Rose emerges as a "bunny boiler" - unstable and obsessive - a trait seemingly shared by most characters. This makes relating to their actions and motivations challenging, stretching credibility thin.
Fiona Mitchell's narration proves adequate but fails to significantly elevate material. While she tackles provided characters capably, even skilled narrators struggle with such melodramatic personalities.
Taglines of "Best friends. Broken promises. Buried secrets." accurately summarise themes, yet the plot twists remain easily anticipated, draining potential suspense. Despite promising setups involving Rose's resurfacing past, character motivations often feel transparent and unrealistic.
Readers enjoying thrillers with high-strung characters who don't mind predictability might find entertainment here. However, those seeking nuanced characterisation and genuine surprises may find "Promise You Made" lacking depth and originality they crave.
