Great book and narration! Enough twist to keep you guessing and enough clues to keep you interested. This has it all gruesome mystery, humor and action. Loved all the characters in addition to the two main characters, the maid Joan was highly entertaining.

The contrast between the main protagonists McGrey and Frey is as curious as Holmes and Watson. One a stuffy Scotland Yard detective another a superstitious, grimy local senior police officer. Using music was a brilliant idea to tie the maccabre altogether. While it definitely feels like part of a series, it's still a good start.

I hope there are many more romps through Victorian Edinburgh. The characters are sharp and likeable the fact that they struggle to be in the same room such is their dislike of each other just adds to the fun

That was a very enjoyable listen. Loved the narration, accents, tempo, etc. The story was comfortable and whilst familiar had enough energy to keep you listening.

Unusual story, I loved the narration and music although I felt it took me a little while to become engrossed in the story, once I did I couldn’t stop listening. I’m probably going to listen to the next in the series too if just for the wonderful way the story was read by the actor.

The presentation had an excellent range of atmospher. From deathly dark to humorous asides. Wonderful tale wonderfully narrated.

Not a bad book, a unique and interesting plot idea which moves along at a reasonable pace unfortunately burdened with a set of fairly thin yet equally uninteresting characters. The foppish lead is certainly part of the joke but it's a joke that wears rather thin and doesn't develop from the earliest pages to the last.

The performance is generally very solid and despite some sections where the characters voices wobble a little I shall certainly look for other readings by the same actor. I suspect the variations have more to do with production and different readings than the actors ability.

Nice accents, shame about the protagonist

Two lead characters quite different but charming in their own way - one pompous and the other a bit different but they nicely compliment. The story is a bit reminiscent of an Agatha Christie novel and, on occasion, a little Belgium detective. I enjoyed it and would recommend for a 'nice' detective story.

Before the story was a quarter way through I was hoping there would be a series with the two detectives, who genuinely had me laughing out loud at times. Look forward to reading the next one.
