About this listen
Millions of people worry that drinking is affecting their health, yet are unwilling to seek change because of the misery and stigma associated with alcoholism and recovery. They fear drinking less will be boring, difficult and involve deprivation, and significant lifestyle changes.
This Naked Mind offers a new solution. Packed with surprising insight into the reasons we drink, it will open your eyes to the startling role of alcohol in our culture. Annie Grace brilliantly weaves psychological, neurological, cultural, social and industry factors with her extraordinarily candid journey resulting in a must read for anyone who drinks.
This book, without scare tactics, pain or rules, gives you freedom from alcohol. By addressing causes rather than symptoms it is a permanent solution rather than lifetime struggle. It removes the psychological dependence allowing you to easily drink less (or stop drinking). Annie’s clarity, humor and unique ability to blend original research with riveting storytelling ensures you will thoroughly enjoy the process.
In a world defined by ‘never enough’ Annie takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of alcohol and specifically the connection between alcohol and pleasure. She dispels the cultural myth that alcohol is a vital part of life and demonstrates how regaining control over alcohol is not only essential to personal happiness and fulfilment but also to ending the heartache experienced by millions as a result of second-hand drinking.
Finally, with perfect clarity, this book opens the door to the life you have been waiting for.
Recognised as one of the best books on the subject of addiction, it is a cornerstone for those in pursuit of a healthy lifestyle, integrating body, spirit, and mind into the recovery process. For fans of William Porter (Alcohol Explained), Catherine Gray (The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober), Allen Carr (Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking) and Sober On A Drunk Planet (Sober On A Drunk Planet: Giving Up Alcohol) and Clare Pooley (The People on Platform 5)

Wow just wow
Felt like drinking was becoming a problem, friend recommended this book, cannot believe the impact it’s had, I’m now 9 days sober with no intention of drinking and this is coming from someone who drunk everyday.
Very powerful a must read if you believe alcohol is becoming a problem.
100% recommended a must read!

Made me stop drinking alcohol by a mistake.
I listened to this over a week commuting. I was interested in behaviour patterns at the time (ten months ago). It being an audio book; I missed any reference to giving up alcohol on the cover - I genuinely read it to find out about the relationship between behaviour and addiction - nothing within me thought drinking alcohol whenever it was about was a problem. It was an interesting book, and I didn’t think much of it beyond wondering why alcohol is such a strong part of culture.
That Friday I had some friends for dinner and bought some nice wine. After telling my friends how nice it was, I poured some glasses and had a sip. It was wrong. I didn’t like it at all. The friends said it was great. Then I realized, this book I’d just gone through was the real deal. I went from someone who likes to drink, to someone who can occasionally have one drink out of intrigue or when being polite to celebrate.
I will never complain about being involuntarily brainwashed, but that happened - it cleansed my brain of any reason to drink again. Such a perspective on society is very freeing.

A real support for those who want to live life the real way!!
I got a copy of this book after reading a thread on Facebook by One Year No Beer.
I wanted some help and guidance to keep me off the beer.
I’ve grown up in pubs and have a family where drinking is the norm.
I wanted to show that life is not all about drinking and that there is an alternative way to live your life, Drink free! I have three kids and I was concerned that they too would see drinking as a normal everyday occurrence. It doesn’t have to be like that.
I stopped drinking on the 12th October and although there are many events that will test me over the next few months, Christmas being one, I feel stronger and clearer in my thinking than I have done for some time.
I stopped drinking in January for three months and saw a massive change in my resting heart rate, but for some reason I started again on the 22nd March. I think it was because I felt boring!!
This book has given me both the facts and the science behind what drinking does to you. I recognise the need to change my sub-conscious approach to drinking and this is the biggest test of all.
I’m about 35 days in and there is a long way to go. My heart rate is better and my mental clarity is good.
Thank you Annie for taking the time to write this book and share your story, it has really helped during those wobbly moments and will continue to do so in the future.

Life changing !
I listened to a similar book "Alcohol Lied to me" some 7 years ago (Annie the author mentions it in her book) and it helped me quit for about 20 days, however that was 20 days of thinking about missing alchhol. The Naked Mind changed the way I think about alcohol by the 2nd chapter and I have no doubt I will maintain abstinence indefinitely as the desire has been eradicated. Its only been a couple of months but I feel completely different to all previous attempt to control my habit and am confident for the future. I will return and update review from time to time.

Definitely worked for me
Yes I was ready to stop drinking but I found this book really helpful in opening my eye to the lie that society tells us about drinking culture. Like Allen Carr’s stop smoking book it works on you over time so that by the time you’ve finished reading you are more than ready to stop. No pain for me either.
