About this listen

No one solves cases like San Francisco detectives, Peyton Brooks and her partner, Marco D’Angelo, but when a young Mexican folk singer, Ynes Linares, is found strangled with her own pearls, compiling a list of suspects that wanted to harm her is easier than figuring out who didn’t. Everyone wanted a piece of the Velvet Sapphire, but someone wanted everything.

A Peyton Brooks Homicide follows San Francisco’s dynamic crime-fighting duo, Peyton Brooks and Marco D’Angelo, through their early cases in the Homicide Division.

A must read, fabulous characters and great story

I had bought all of M L Hamiltons books that are available on Audible and was then given the opportunity to have her latest releases for free. I couldn’t say no. I love hearing Peyton’s story and the dynamics between her relationship with Marco and her colleagues. Losing her Dad had such a big impact on her and these early books give us some insight in to how she was when he was killed. The case in this book has the usual intrigue and and it is great listening to it unfold with life in the background interacting with the main characters. Kelley Hazen brings the words and characters to life and you feel like you know the characters. I really recommend you read the Peyton Brooks books, they are such a great read

Peyton Brooks, a little younger but still fab!

For listeners who have been following the Peyton Brooks series, these are the stories that came first. They are the explanations for or history of some of the beloved characters, and, if you are familiar enough with the other books, there are little foreshadowing details that are amazing to pick up!

That said, I am so impressed with ML Hamilton for unwrapping these characters to their younger, less experienced selves and building them in a way that will seamlessly grow in the direction they are headed. That must have been tough!! Kelley Hazen has narrated this book with her usual flair, artfully giving the characters a youthful exuberance that they grow out of in the chronologically next series.

I enjoyed the book. I love how Peyton thinks, and I love her relationship with her partner, Marco. They are in sync and are already the dynamic duo they are destined to be.

This audiobook was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
