About this listen
Are you a nursing student who has started precepting in a hospital and thought, “Why didn’t I get taught this in nursing school?” Look no further!
As a nurse with more than 15 years of experience, I often precept nursing students, train new grads, or orient new nurses. Over and over, I hear the statement from them, “No one ever taught me that!” I get it. School is overwhelming, and the focus is on the basics.
This book addresses the gaps between the book world and the real world, where the work actually is. This audiobook is jam-packed with all sorts of lessons you will never learn in school. These real-world tips and tricks will shorten the learning curve all new grads go through.
Contained here are funny nursing stories to elaborate on several major nursing themes like superstitions, work-wives, night shift, gallows humor, teamwork, surveyors, and potlucks. This book cuts through generalities to the heart of what real nursing is like: the good, the bad, and the funny.
In this book you will discover:
- How to speak "Nurse".
- The ultimate nursing superpower.
- What the biggest myth in nursing is.
- What not to talk about with coworkers.
If you are in nursing school, if you’re a new nurse, or if you just want to be one someday, this book will teach you what it's really like. Scroll up and click the "Buy Now" button and get ready for a hilarious PRN dose of some honest nursing reality.

Thoroughly enjoyable - even if you're not a nurse!
Even if you're not a nurse, grab your beverage of choice and sit back while the author shares a fascinating peek into the world of nursing. I loved hearing the shorthand terms nurses used (and pray I don't hear most of them if I'm ever in hospital!) For any new nurses, this book is an excellent primer for their chosen profession.

Great for Nurses and Regular People, Too
I'm not a nurse, but this book intrigued me. As someone who believes that nurses are the real caregivers when we go into the hospital, I thought I could gain some insight into their side of the coin in case I end up "on the inside". This book really helped with that. The author is an actual Nurse and uses that to her advantage to show "How to speak Nurse" and feel like an insider when you're around them. To top it off, she uses actual funny stories and real-life examples to highlight several major nursing themes and bring the book to life. You've gotta listen to this one. It's a homerun.

Honest, helpful behind-the-scenes scope!
Wow, what a brilliant idea. Thank you Kristine Dittman for creating this book!
This is a resource that every nurse should have for their own personal pick-me up and moral support. Doesn't matter if you're a newbie and could use reassurance, or whether you've been in the game a while and could use that relatability factor and a good laugh.
As a therapist, I absolutely love seeing the world from others' perspectives. I'm a curious person, but it's also the best thing for cultivating compassion. I recommend this wonderful light read to anybody who's ever been treated by a nurse (and who hasn't) and to anybody who's considering a nursing career. It also got me thinking: I also wish more professionals would write from their real-life perspectives! Such a great idea!

Informative and Funny
This book is an excellent resource for new nurses who are just starting their careers, as well as for experienced nurses who want to brush up on their knowledge and skills. The author explains the terminology used in the nursing profession and how to communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals.
In addition to the valuable information, this book also contains some funny and relatable nursing stories that are sure to put a smile on your face. Reading these stories, I felt like I was sitting with a group of experienced nurses, listening to their hilarious and sometimes outrageous stories from the job. The best part about these stories is that they cut through generalities to the heart of what real nursing is like - the good, the bad, and the funny. They are a testament to the unique experiences and challenges that nurses face every day and how they cope with them.

Future Nurses... You're Gonna Love This Book!
I thoroughly enjoyed the book "What They Do Not Teach You In Nursing School," and I'm not even a nurse. I listened to it with great interest as part of a field study for a writing project, aiming to delve deeper into understanding nurses from an author's perspective. Wow, this audiobook was both refreshing and enlightening, giving me a much better understanding and appreciation for the nursing profession.
The book even had me laughing at times with its behind-the-scenes anecdotes about the nursing world. I particularly enjoyed hearing about the 50 acronyms that nurses often use; I might even revisit this knowledge if I ever find myself in a hospital. The audiobook sparked my curiosity, leading me to Google various terms and concepts discussed, such as "compression socks" and other tidbits.
The author, who also narrates the audiobook, delivers her message in a candid and conversational style that is genuinely refreshing. You'll gain valuable insights into nursing, even if you're not in the medical field. I believe anyone aspiring to become a nurse owes it to themselves to listen to Kristine Dittmann's wise tips. She provides valuable lessons as a seasoned nurse with a great sense of humor. Highly recommended!
