About this listen
Playboy. Socialite. Frivolous and wicked.
Alexander Caldwell needs to settle down.
Hence the giant white house he just bought in the suburbs.
The one that backs up to the house filled with three single women living in it.
They all have their sights set on him...but it’s her he can’t get out of his head.
Alexander has absolutely no place getting involved with a teenage girl with the world in her eyes.
But he does.
Tortured. Lonely. Desperate to run.
Sunny Thorn needs to get out of her mother’s house.
To do that, she needs money.
Hence taking the job painting a mural in Alexander Caldwell’s pool house.
The man whose eyes follow her. The man with the sculpted jaw and commanding presence. The man who is way too old for her.
When Sunny has the chance to get out of Pineridge and start a future of her own, he should let her go.
But he doesn’t.
Beautiful Monster is a standalone age-gap forbidden romance from the author of the Wicked Hearts series.

Wonderful listen!
When Alex buys his house in the suburbs, he has one intention.Settle down. It's time to clean up his reputation. The house he has bought is next door to a woman and her two daughters, and one he just cannot get out of his head. Sunny is half his age, but she has caught his eye. Now he has hired her to paint a mural in his pool house. As he gets to know her, there is more to her than just that initial beauty. But will their age difference get in the way? Will he be able to resist her? Sara Cate gives us a beautiful love story. Alex has demons, and he is learning to deal with them. Sunny's adult life is just beginning. And Cate melds these two lives together in such a way that your heart follows their emotions. From hesitancy, letting go and love, we get to take their journey, understand their choices and fall in love.
Finding a team that can do the age gap and sound realistic is not an easy task. Virginia Rose is a gem when it comes to voices and she picks the perfect new adult voice for Sunny. At times a little bratty, but mature for her age, Rose creates the character of Sunny flawlessly. Aaron Shedlock, with his incredible voice for Alex, adds that uneasiness that Alex has, the indecision with the burning passion he feels all comes across tugging at your heart. This team is superbly cast and makes for hours of pleasurable listening.

Becoming who you were meant to be
Sara Cate has a way of writing messy characters and making you fall in love with them and root for them when they are down.
I loved the chemistry between Alex & Sunny. They both grew and evolved so much. There was so much angst and chemistry and emotion in this story.

Difficult book, but I enjoyed it a lot
This trope isn’t one I usually read–not that big of an age gap, with the female character in her late teens. But while the relationship depicted in the book is quite steamy, the author wrote mainly about the struggles around such an age gap.
I found interesting that the innocent virgin young woman is actually the one in power here. Alex, while being forty and experienced, is at a crossroad and is trying to get his life in check. Sunny, with her fresh spirit and curious mind–even when struggling with her expectations for her future and a fucked up family–is quite steady. But don’t be mistaken, the relationship is toxic, just not for the usual reasons. And it’ll take some time–and some drama–for them to build a real relationship.
Intimacy is an important part of the story, what with Sunny being a virgin. Their encounters are sizzling hot, and the tension through the roof. It can be disturbing and is actually a proof of the toxicity of the relationship.
All the usual themes are touched upon: the difference in experience, the imbalance in power, the look of the outsiders, the fights with family and close friends… They’re especially important because of Alexander’s troubled past–another layer of problems before they can be accepted as a couple.
Both narrators did an incredible job expressing the pain and struggles of the characters, as well as the passion in them and between them. While being a difficult book, I enjoyed it a lot.

Broke my heart.
I was so angry with Alexander and Sunny’s family. What kind of sister f..ks the man she knows her sister crushes on infront of her. Alexander didn’t deserve Sunnys love and I’m still angry

Intense age gap romance.
This has been a really good listen which explored the difficulties inherent in a relationship between two people with such a wide age gap. It is honest about the issues that arise and the questions that arise in the mind of the older partner. Sunny does not fit on at all with her sister and mother. In fairness, imo, they are the monsters here. Alex, trying to get his life on track is both enthralled and appalled by his attraction to a girl so very much younger than himself. They both, however, need to fly in their own ways.
Aaron Shedlock and Virginia Rose are both excellent in the roles as narrators. They bring out the intense attraction between the two, the need to get past the vast difference in experience, both in life experience and sexually, with skill and assurance. 💖💖💖💖

Beautiful....
This really is a beautiful age gap story...
Strongly written to include so many emotional twists and turns. With strong characters and a stronger bond, you will be left wanting more.
The performance of this book was spot on. Anyone can read a book, but I strongly believe this isn't the case when it comes to narration. I think my five stars explains my feelings on this performance 😉

It’s an angsty age gap read that’s filled with heat, heartache and love. The chemistry between the characters is off the charts hot and oh so steamy. I do love an age gap!
