About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author Penelope Douglas comes a new forbidden-love story....

Jordan:

He took me in when I had nowhere else to go. He doesn't use me, hurt me, or forget about me. He doesn't treat me like I'm nothing, take me for granted, or make me feel unsafe. He remembers me, laughs with me, and looks at me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work.

I have to stop this. It can't happen. My sister once told me there are no good men, and if you find one, he's probably unavailable. Only Pike Lawson isn't the unavailable one. I am.

Pike:

I took her in because I thought I was helping. She'd cook a few meals and clean up a little. It was an easy arrangement. As the days go by, though, it's becoming anything but easy. I have to stop my mind from drifting to her and stop holding my breath every time I bump into her in the house. I can't touch her, and I shouldn't want to. The more I find my path crossing hers, though, the more she's becoming a part of me.

But we're not free to give into this. She's 19, and I'm 38. And I'm her boyfriend's father. Unfortunately, they both just moved into my house.

Birthday Girl is a stand-alone contemporary romance suitable for ages 18-plus.

I was utterly absorbed in this story and there was good chemistry between the characters. Although it’s a taboo subject it was handled well and wasn’t too over the top or annoyingly angsty - just felt real. Wish this author had more books on Audible as there’s only a small handful at the moment.

Very enjoyable listen

It’s not the type of book I like to read/listen to but I still liked it 👍

Great spicy scenes

Loved the spice but also the story! Rooting for them from the beginning! Would recommend!

Ah so so good!!

I started this book expecting a somewhat smutty agegap romance book. what I could was that but also so much more the realistic views on agegap related microsexisms and other very real and very subtle but powerfull details in their interactions that lead to very emotionally heartwrenching situations felt very convincing and hooked on the story from halfway the book till the end. it was a journey and I'll always look favourably on this book.

Surprisingly real

I think it was a very decent story with good spice. I got engaged.
I am not satisfied, though.
Set up was there to stir up some top-tier drama, but the ending felt anticlimactic.
Also, I wasn't a fan of female narrator. She could have done male voices better.

Surprisingly, I liked plot the most

I loved it, unique and tells that no matter who it is you can still love them

Love

I think that perhaps I have become comparatively immune to the controversial aspects of this novel, having first read Credence. Great story, and held my attention.

Loved it

Meh performances, meh story just meh. The first part was really interesting and building so good but the second half was just irritating.

First half great, second half not so much!
