Summary
Want to know what happens to a man who barely claws his way out of a tragedy, only to fall right into the arms of the one girl in the world he can never have?
Another tragedy, that's what.
When I was six years old, my father made a choice that altered the course of my entire life. Because of what he did, the only girl I ever loved became the only girl I couldn’t have.
In a lot of ways, I did have her; I had her first steps, her first words, her first smile. I had her milestones, her heartbreaks, her dreams. I had her heart so woven in with mine, I didn’t know where she ended, and I began.
Only, as the years pressed on, lines became blurred—and the blurrier the line, the easier it is to cross.
They say tragedy comes in threes. For me, that was true. The first one changed me, the second one broke me, and the third one healed me.
But at the center of all that tragedy, there is a love story. And at the center of that love story, there is June.
Critic reviews
"Jennifer Hartmann penned an exceptionally unique story with every emotion digging its claws into your heart. June First is an unforgettable masterpiece!" (Jewel E. Ann, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author)
"A touching coming of age story that oh-so-slowly kindles, and when it ignites, hold on tight because oh baby, this forbidden love burns. The angst and steam alone will overfill your taboo-loving heart. Such a beautiful, unforgettable book." (Pam Godwin, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author)

Not as strong as "Still beating",but a heartfelt story nonetheless
A nice, romantic and well paced story. Characters are very well written, despite some clichés here and there and basically no character arcs. I founds this book a bit more simple, more safe, compared to "Still beating" which is a much more complex, dark, dynamic and at the same time a masterpiece in its category. "June 1st" is a standard romantic tale which is decent and easy to read/listen to. Knowing the author's abilities and the mastery she demonstrated in her previous works,I expected a bit more.

WOW
I don’t have the words for what this book did to me. It’s so beautifully written. I wasn’t on this planet anymore. This book transported me inside the story. It’s just wow. It’s a story that I definitely want to listen to again and again. I’m glad that I found this author. Honestly probably one of the best books I’ve ever come across. The way I was crying throughout this…. Man it wrecked me. Just perfect. ❤️

The best kind of heartbreak
Wow. This book hurt so good, it’s heartbreakingly beautiful and their love story is epic. Absolutely broke my heart (before it put it together again) and I loved every second of it. Excellent narration.

Heart stopping! 10 🌟
This book was truly amazing and I am still trying to recover. It was heart breaking, heart wrenching and heart shattering, all at the same time.
I can't remember the last time I read a book where I lurched from one crisis to the next, quite like this one, but this author has the power to do just that. The good news though is that in the end, all is right with the world, but what an incredible journey you have to go through to get there.
This is the story of 6 year old Brant who suffers from a traumatic event on the same day that June is brought into the world and the adversities they have to overcome together. I won't ever be able to listen to "Over the Rainbow" without these two in my mind.
I think it's best to go in blind and there is one particular chapter that literally breaks your heart.
The narration was superb with Neill Thorne enabling you to feel the story through the eyes of a 6 year old right into his 30s.
A truly wonderful book. Read or listen to it! It is so worth it!

Long and drawn out
This felt far too long a book for the story it was telling. I found it quite tedious at times and wanted the author to move on quicker. Overall, I was disappointed particularly as this novel had so many 5* reviews.
