Prof Mark Williams
About this listen
“Want a happier, more contented life? I highly recommend the down-to-earth methods you’ll find in Mindfulness. Professor Mark Williams and Dr Danny Penman have teamed up to give us scientifically grounded techniques we can apply in the midst of our everyday challenges and catastrophes.” Daniel Goleman, bestselling author of Emotional Intelligence
Life can be relentless, frantic and exhausting - but it doesn’t have to be this way.
This is an introduction to Mindfulness, which reveals a set of simple yet powerful practices that you can incorporate into daily life to help break the cycle of anxiety, stress, unhappiness and exhaustion. Mindfulness is based on mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), which is recommended by the UK’s National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence and is as effective as drugs for preventing depression. But, more importantly, it also works for the rest of us who aren’t depressed but are struggling to keep up with the constant demands of the modern world.
By investing just a few minutes each day, you can learn the simple mindfulness meditations at the heart of MBCT. This audio edition is an introduction to the technique which will give you the tools to put you back in control and able to enjoy life again.

peace of mind available here!!
an excellent practical resource for anyone suffering from a busy mind right through to anxiety based thinking, It came with a good reccomendation from a therapeutic professional. Uses down to earth real life scenarios to explain ideas. But is also not shy of describing a more philosophical basis for cultivating mindfulness in our daiIy lives, (using eastern thought), and how it releases us from suffering. Enjoy! I really did. Lots of information. It's very comprehensive. Does not include timed exercises which I thought it would. But it does talk through and explain exactly what to do. You may also like The Compassionate mind by Paul Gilbert.

Needs a PDF or better bookmarking.
Would you try another book written by Mark Williams and Danny Penman or narrated by Mark Williams?
Maybe. The content was OK in this book but there seemed to be a lack of structure and practicality to this audiobook - if future books were more practical to listen to (ie proper bookmarks and a PDF guide) then I'd consider it.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrotor's voice is good. I enjoyed listening to him.
Could you see Mindfulness being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
No. That would be weird.
Any additional comments?
There is no PDF guide to this audiobook and only on an ipod does it show chapters - with no chapter titles, just chapter numbers. So it is therefore only through memory or writing your own notes that you can remember which chapter is which meditation and so on. The first 27 chapters of the book are just talking about Mindfulness, the last 10 or so are the actual meditations. It would've been very useful to have a PDF guide that said what each chapter was called, or even just where the meditations were. I had to listen for 2 hours plus before I knew where the meditations were on this audiobook. For a book that supposed to relax you the lack of practicality in this audiobook was quite staggering!
Saying all that, the content is fine. The meditations are short (8-10mins average) but OK.

Not what I expected but still really good
I was expecting this to be the full version but it's an abridged one for audio book. However, still a fantastic listen and we'll worth doing. Mindfulness has significantly changed my life so I can highly recommend it to anyone.

This book is great, working from the start
I was so happy when I found the mindfulness book. I have already been involved in a mindfulness class through work and it helped so much while I was going through a very hard time, but this was many yrs ago.
