Summary

When the Zombie Apocalypse came, one country had shut down its borders in response to a major terrorist attack. Now Fortress Britain is the last bastion of the living. And one international team of supremely elite special operators are humanity's last best hope for survival. Supremely trained and armed, always the most skilled, resolved, and unstoppable amongst us, now the commandos of Alpha team are tasked with one last desperate operation. They must cross the Atlantic aboard the world's only remaining supercarrier and insert by air into the very middle of a dead continent, all in search of a rumored vaccine that might bring humanity back from the brink. But their op goes dangerously wrong from the start, with their team scattered to hell and back, and their target site a dry hole. Now they must fight their way on foot through a city of 3 million ravening dead guys, in search of an underground bunker that might hold the Last Man on Earth. But these undead will not be like any Zulus they have ever fought before - and they surround their new target in a writhing ring of death 30 feet high on all sides...

R C Bray - what a legend

Another trip to the ZA featuring some great combat sequences and the development of what's shaping up to be a fascinating storyline. I'm already looking forward to the next installment.

Not… 9/10 Fuchs do I give James

When you know there are a series of books on the go, do you like me, willfully hold off on any judgement until you have read or heard them all?

Well this bit of code is fairly insistent that I rate this first book now.

Book One has a nice balance of story scene setting, informative tech and pithy character story lines. There was a particular flow that struck me as solid penmanship,

I most liked how the authors paced out the scenes as they created bubbles of excitement and tension leading up to each inevitable and increasingly devastating kinetic engagement.

A simple soldier vs zombie first person shooter this book most definitely is not. Even some zombies have depth and you just know that particular story arc has a ways to go…

RC Brays ‘polished yet punchy’ narrating is perfect for this military/action genre. I’ve enjoyed his style and his approach elsewhere and he is an excellent fit for this particular book.

Flat, lack of strong characters, average fare

So we have found something the great RC Bray can't do, British accents! This aside, Bray again carries the story far higher than the text itself deserves. I'm glad I didn't give a credit for this or book one. For me the main issue is the poor characterisation, not always helped by the accents. I simply don't feel attached to any of the characters nor particularly care about what happens to them. The story isn't bad and if military stories are your thing then you may enjoy it more, but for me it is just average. I won't be using a credit to buy book three.

Value?

Great fan of R C Bray and he as usual excellent, writing was fine though maybe not my cup of tea, zombie walking dead has had its day in my eyes.
However to pay this much for 4 hours is Frankly ridiculous, No way am I using my months credit on this amount of content however good.
Moving on.
