Summary

For generations, nobles have gathered at a scenic estate once per year to compete. What transpires there is spoken of only in rumors, save for the prizes. Potent, powerful, and precious; the winners are said to receive a gift from magic itself.

Reeling after their loss to Kalzidar, the adventurers from Maplebark can only press forward, following advice imparted by the gods. Their divine directions will lead them on a series of twisting paths, branching between old friends and new challenges, before ultimately pointing at a particular estate on a specific evening.

Thrust from the familiar comfort of the wilds, the party will have to navigate the perils of noble society while keeping themselves in the competition. Between scheming nobles, a hidden high priest, dangerous challenges, and too many familiar faces, just making it out alive will be a challenge. But surviving alone won't be enough; not with a vengeful god scheming in the shadows, and a stolen soul waiting for rescue.

If the party wants their chance to strike back, they'll have to find a way to emerge victorious.

Another great adventure.

I'll preface this review with the fact that I'm yet to find a Drew Hayes book that I haven't enjoyed.

Noble Roots continues the streak with well paced adventure, continual character develop and an excellent narrator in Roger Wayne.

Possibly my favourite in the series so far.

Brilliant series!

Really great series and I’m massively looking forward to the next book. I thought the narration was good and the story hasn’t been lacklustre for me at all yet.

Another smash hit!

I loved it. This series is one of my favourite fantasy series, and I've been waiting for the release from the moment I finished the last one (and now eagerly await the next book in a few years!)

The characters are well fleshed out, and it's great to see them developing, both in their abilities and in their personalities.

The overall story in this book was a good solid continuation. There were a lot of cool fights and discovery of new abilities, but I think my favourite bit was finding out more about the Novak family and about Eric's family.

Loved book 5 just like all the others

Hayes has done it again. After what felt like a long wait (not Patrick Rothfuss long, just COVID long) Noble Roots comes along and makes every minute worthwhile. Some of the revelations in this one are jaw-dropping, and seeds of mysteries are sewn but not reaped (hehe), leaving us hanging on until book 6, whenever that may be.

Absolutely love this series.

Another Grand Quest

Yet another awesome mix of amazing story from Mr Hayes performed by the fantastic Roger Wayne. Great story with more secrets and advancements from Thistle and the gang. Thanks again to both Drew and Roger for a massively enjoyable listen. Really love this group and the built up lives that are genuinely cared for as you listen to their trials and tribulations.

Another fantastic instalment

I have loved this series from book one and was delighted when I could pre order this title. Took me a while to get around to listening as I’ve been so busy with work and so it’s been the journey to and from work for a few weeks now but I enjoyed every single second. Delighted the same narrator keeps coming back and the story, although in some ways we could see what was coming is developing nicely.
This is not a stand-alone and you need to read the others before this but by the time you get to this one you’ll be just as hooked.
