A story set in Nigeria which takes into consideration the geography, culture and habits while presenting a refreshingly good sci-fi story.

This is a weird and wonderful novel, I was absolutely enchanted from beginning to end. The ideas are incredible, magical and very original. Set in Nigeria, for a change, this is sci fi of the highest order: great premise (alien dome around which a city has grown), incredible characters - all of them, and a plot that twists and turns and leaves you impatient for Book 2. I can't wait!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book, the story was both interesting and enthralling, I am looking forward to the next instalment in this trilogy

I may reserve a review for the end of the third book, and that in itself should give a hint as to my opinion. At this stage, my key thoughts about this relate to its inventiveness, the fact that it is refreshingly non-eurocentric - a quality made even more enjoyable by Bayo Gbadamosi's narration, and its ability to deliver an essentially ordinary main character who somehow is also quite extraordinary.

This novel keeps adding surprises and amazing twists and new key-characters, as it jumps back and forth and in between the time line of the story,. We see it all through the first person narrator, the main character, Karu, a young man who's unwillingly involved in hugely important, world-saving matters because of his special abilities. This story has it all: mind reading and all kinds of other special abilities, sci-fi elements, including different types of aliens, sociopolitical commentary on past, present and future (the story is set in Nigeria, in our future), women as key characters choosing their own destiny and saving Karu and the world (a lot), security procedures against "network" attacks, and so much more. The narrator is brilliant. My only regret is that I haven't read this sooner.

struggled to concentrate for much of this. I admire the outline and ideas behind the story, and was abstract in a niel gaiman type way but was not drawn in by the protagonist

Tade Thompson's "Rosewater" is easily the most subversive and frightening alien invasion novel since either Cixin Liu's "Three Body Problem" trilogy or H. G. Wells "War of the worlds". And Bayo Gbadamosi sells us Tade's World with his beautiful Nigerian accent.
Read it. Now.

Without wanting to give away spoilers, Tade Thompson has created a unique world and transports you to a believable world where the storyline was gripping holding the listeners interest throughout with a good narrator who is able to cope with place names and accents

A truly excellent and thought through science fiction with an eye on the world today. Can get a little confusing if you don't pay attention since the action and flashbacks move at a clip but well worth it.

hmmm. it's ok, I liked it being Nigerian, and ok reading from the narrator, but I kept getting lost due to the various times it is set in. this is due to me stopping and starting with audible so less of a fault of the book, I just kept forgetting what year I was in.
