About this listen
I’ve known every kind of pain. Of the heart. Of the body. Of the soul. All I want now is the freedom that comes from making my art.
The last thing I expected was Hollywood royalty to waltz into my gallery in a small town in the middle of nowhere and see me. A man like Boden Cavanaugh shouldn’t understand me. Shouldn’t be able to soothe my most ragged edges. Even worse, he makes me want the one thing I can’t have. Him. All it takes is one spark, and friendship catches flame. But as our attraction burns bright, there are forces desperate to send us back into the darkness. And they’ve already killed before….
©2021 Catherine Cowles (P)2022 Catherine CowlesOk so Catherine finished me off with the Prologue. I wouldn’t mind but I’d already read it in the sneak peek at the end of Hidden Waters, so I knew what was coming……and I still friggin read it again 🤷🏼♀️ stupid stupid!
I absolutely loved this book, it’s such an emotional rollercoaster throughout for both Laiken and Boden.
Their journey is not easy, far from it, both trying to get over losses, some more recent than others but both with vast amounts of pain.
However, getting over it is not what on the agenda, when people linked to events start getting hurt, things take a turn for the worst.
This was one of Catherine’s best books for me, and I’ve loved all that came before, I did not see the twist coming in this one, I thought I had it all worked out, but was so wrong. So damn good!
Bring on Fractured Sky……I’ve been waiting for Shiloh’s FOREVER!!!!!
Loved the book, loved the audio ❤️

Laiken’s story in Shattered Sea will break your heart with the prologue when her life is left devastated. The years pass and, on the surface it appears that she is getting on with her life but its obvious that she’s merely existing until movie star Boden Cavanagh comes to Wolf Gap ostensibly to research his latest film but also to try and get over a tragic loss of his own.
This story is so beautifully written as two people who have both gone through tragic losses find one another, first as friends before their relationship slowly deepening into love. Boden and Lake are perfect together. While initially she is reluctant to rely on anyone, Boden is more than happy to take things at her pace and just be there with her. With the previous books in this series, Catherine Cowles has proven she’s an amazing romance author but with Shattered Sea she’s also shown she can write suspense with the best of them. I know there has been an element of thriller in the previous books but its always been clear who the bad guy was and it was more a case of proving it but here it’s a classic whodunnit. I would’ve liked a little more build up in the tension but I was still totally shocked when the villain was exposed and I doubt anyone even considered this person as a suspect.
Amazing Narration

Once again Ms Cowles you’ve written a deep and beautiful love story where no one will be unmoved by the events unfolding in this story. I know I need the next book soon I cannot wait. The narration was spot on and just enhances the experience of this wonderful tale.

And we cannot go wrong with a narration team like Ava Erickson and Sebastian York. These two work so well together, their voices complimenting each other. Tuning into their characters, the personalities for both are spot on and the performance one you should not miss!

Jase died 17 years ago but it seems like no one wants to move on. His family each in their own way is still holding Laiken Montgomery back from moving on with her life… that is until Boden Cavanaugh arrives in Wolf Gap.
“I was barely holding it together, and then suddenly realize that I didn’t need to. Not now, not with Boden… I came apart with the man who saw every fractured piece of me and wanted me anyway.”
By the end of the book I was totally in love with Boden and Laiken and didn’t want the story to end!!
I listened to most of this story on audiobook and loved the narration. It really gave me more of an ‘immersed in the book’ feel!

🎧 📚🎧 And for the amazing narration, Ava Erickson and Sebastian York are super stars and they are exceptional at what they do, bringing the characters to life, humanizing them with their own voice and personality. I love how they take each role, run with it and make it their own, sounding believable and just as I picture the characters to sound. They set the perfect tone for the story and capture all the character’s emotions and project them into their performance and have you feeling every single one. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another exceptional listen

I wasn’t expecting this story as thought be just the sibling so when it wasn’t the next sibling I was like who this book about.
Obviously met Laiken in Addie book, she had a lot to overcome that you don’t realised and the twist in this book I never clicked on. Was totally annoyed at myself.
Loved the twist though and how quickly they became a couple. It was straight to romance and overcoming their pasts.
Great story.
