Summary

What if President John F. Kennedy had survived and rocketed the Space Race of the 1960s into overdrive? And what if he was, maybe, not quite...himself?

Space: 1969 is a wild and outrageous sci-fi comedy from the mind of Emmy-winning writer Bill Oakley (The Simpsons, Futurama, Portlandia).

Nancy Kranich (played by Emmy-nominated actress Natasha Lyonne of Russian Doll and Orange Is the New Black) is a night nurse on an orbiting space station. But Nancy hates her job, is sick of space, and longs to find adventure and a safe place to smoke cigarettes that won’t blow everyone up.

But when Nancy gets caught up in an outer-space conspiracy involving President Kennedy (serving his third term), former vice-president Richard Nixon (now a miserable, forgotten lawyer practicing estate law in New York City), and an intergalactic object that could change the course of history, she gets way more adventure than she bargained for.

Can Nurse Nancy save herself, the Moon Colony, and the future of the entire United States of America?

Space: 1969 is a retro sci-fi comedy adventure that has to be heard to be believed!

A very American humor, definitely not for everyone

It was fun to hear, but if you know nothing about US history and/or don't like American humor it's not for you.

wow! That's something to remember!

the way the story is written, that someone is narrating to you by breaking the fourth wall- directly communicating with the audience, and is also a character (what Deadpool does in the Marvel - but here in a much better way), the what if alignment - wow, amazing. I salute the writing skill of the writer. For the imagination of various scenes, the setups of some conversations deserve hats off.

This story does have plot holes but that never bothered me, because it's full of witty jokes and this genre is where you accept everything in reality.

The jokes were amazing, the narration was superb, and the satire and sarcasm were top-notch. Never stopped laughing, even one second didn't feel boring.

I wish there were no plot holes at all, all the questions were answered, and a little bit more romance and sex to level up the full taste of this meal.

Great job cast.

Brilliant fun

Excellent production - funny, suspenseful and a great new take on the JFK thing.

Now for another orange…

Stick with it!

First couple of attempts I wasn't feeling it.
But give it a couple of chapters and you'll find a very funny listen, with a unique story telling process.

Retro space opera or what?

Performed by several voice artists with narration this is a gripping ride from Earth to the Moon via the Space Station.
You could loosely describe it as an alternative history, speculating what would happen if President Kennedy didn’t die in Dallas in 1963.
I think it is accessible by anyone, but as some reviewers have pointed out, familiarity with 1960’s US history and social norms adds to the humour I suspect.

Brilliant

An excellent comedy. Hilarious and fun listen.
Really well done.
You should take it to the theatre and have them perform it like a radio show with the sound effect guy visible.
I saw a detective show years ago where they stood speaking in to mics and reading from the script.
This would work and I’d definitely be there.
Thank you for producing an excellent audio production.

Some funny sh*t right there

Irreverent and cheeky: I just loved it. Well performed, well written and all that. Although it will appeal to people who are of a certain age as some of the jokes will be pointed at a certain generation.

A good fun listen.

Story was good well acted. Nice premise.
Loved what they done with the narration and also how they make light of the fact that it's a audiobook. "I'm smiling, I'm smiling too"
