About this listen

Paul Tremblay, critically acclaimed author of Disappearance at Devil's Rock and A Head Full of Ghosts, adds an inventive twist to the home invasion horror story in a heart-palpitating novel of psychological suspense.

Seven-year-old Wen and her parents, Eric and Andrew, are vacationing at a remote cabin on a quiet New Hampshire lake. Their closest neighbours are more than two miles in either direction along a rutted dirt road.

One afternoon, as Wen catches grasshoppers in the front yard, a stranger unexpectedly appears in the driveway. Thus begins an unbearably tense, gripping tale of paranoia, sacrifice, apocalypse and survival that escalates to a shattering conclusion, one in which the fate of a loving family and quite possibly all of humanity are entwined.

The Cabin at the End of the World is a masterpiece of terror and suspense from the fantastically fertile imagination of Paul Tremblay.

I would advise waiting for the film. this story meanders through flashbacks and unreliable narrators, with stakes that don't really seem to pay off. I can't in all good conscience recommend this book. I read it as part of a book club and the consensus was it's not great. I didn't enjoy the performer either

i found this a struggle

I am going to read this instead of listening to it. I'm not sure why Alexa was chosen for the narration of this, but I made it through 1 chapter and had to stop

Alexa, read me a story

Amy Landon's narration was so bad she sounded like a computer generated voice you find on those crappy YouTube videos.
Some of the character's voices sounded like robots with no care as to where pathos or any kind of nuance needed to be.

Possibly the worse narration job ever recorded.

great story, felt a bit flat at times.

the narrator should be tried for war crimes

Through listening, you will understand suffering.

I've also seen the movie, and hoped the book would bring a little more insight but this was so bad. the narrator sounded so uninspired, every character sounded exactly the same. I couldn't finish it, it was unbearable

didn't finish it

This had a lot of promise. The premise of the story is intriguing but it falls flat and the narration is almost painful.

Note to self - read reviews first!

Awful Performance

Honestly the worst narrator I’ve experienced with Audible. Perhaps it’s a little unfair as the narration was so awful I couldn’t really give the story a chance.

Narration is just awful

The last few hours were tedious, repetitive and boring, The story never gets gripping or exiting. I was really disappointed with the ending as the title says the film is a much more rewarding story and characters are well cast, In the early parts it comes super close to book in detail, Then it falls away once (The choice) needs to be made.
Needed more drama towards the end and thought to actually make us believe both sides more.
I ended the book not really bothered if the world did end I was glad the book did.

The film is way better…………

Started off really well and held my attention for a good while. Unfortunately, half way in my interest rapidly dropped. I don't know if I would listen to more from this author.

High hopes that failed to reach...

Too much exposition. Disappointing ending. Read in an odd iambic pentameter way. I didn't enjoy this for the same reason I don't enjoy Stephen King. Too much time setting the scene with content that could make a great short story not a novel.

Great if you like Stephen king.
