Summary
When a fiendish fraudster has been fomenting financial falsehoods, who can find the finagler?
The World’s Greatest Detective Agency, of course!
Staffed by the eccentric man who calls himself Sherman Holmes and aided by his ever-composed assistant Watson, the duo will take on cases other agencies might consider helpless, hopeless, or downright preposterous.
Which is how our fearless fellows find themselves investigating a Renaissance faire’s cooked books, with the finger of guilt pointing directly at their client. To prove his innocence, Sherman and Watson will have to join the revelry, triumph in challenges, deal with an unusually aggressive parrot, and uncover the true origins of the seemingly cheerful faire.

A Faire Olde Game
Another cracking tale for our dynamic duo! Things will definitely be getting a little perilous in the next instalment. I shall be keeping my ears open!

Really good
This was one of my favourites in the series. Plot, narration, characters - all good. I look forward to seeing where Hayes goes with this.

So Much Joy!!
🎧 Every single second of Scott Aiello's performance had a joie de vivre that made this so special!! Scott followed the author's directions so if a character spoke in haggard gasps or talked with food in his mouth, you heard it. SA gave Holmes his usual enthusiastic, lively vocals but the narrative (no spoiler here) required a drowsy, slurred variation and it was brilliant!! Aiello imbued care in Watson's droll POV and as always, we understood Holmes because Watson does. Vocal variety was in Scott's bag of tricks and my favourite? His articulate and effortless shifts between American English, English English and Ye Olde English that was beyond perfect for the renaissance fair setting!! The narrator understood the characters and got the author's intent making this a joyous collaboration!
📚 Sherman and Joel were in fine form: I laughed at the use of the five minute windows; l lived for Watson's fisticuffs and athleticism; and I loved their evolving dynamic. Drew Hayes also wrote outstanding dialogue runs and his social commentary on found family was masterfully depicted. A minor gripe? The author must trust we recall pivotal plot points and emotional beats from Book 1 and Book 2 - the constant recollections and call backs were unnecessary and borderline repetitive. Otherwise, l am chomping at the bit for Book 4!!

Another fun adventure
This series is so much fun. The third book doesn’t disappoint. The narrator is brilliant and brings the characters to life. I’m intrigued to see what happens next!

Awesome, as always
Great fun, cozy but clever. Wordy, as are all Drew Hayes’ novels, but none the worse for it.

A good follow up
A good follow up that builds on the world we have come to love. But there's plenty of character growth wrapped up in a well paced and fun plot.
