About this listen

Introducing your new crime thriller fix: Bristol detective DS George Cross, champion of the outsider, the voiceless and the dispossessed.

DS George Cross can be rude, difficult and awkward with people. But his unfailing logic and relentless pursuit of justice means his conviction rate is the best on the force. When a ravaged body is found in a local demolition site, it is up to Cross to piece together the truth from whatever fragments he can find.

The demolition began at dawn. Walls knocked over. Twisted pipes uprooted. Window frames smashed. A dead body unearthed....

DS Cross has little to go on, but from the faint tan lines on the body and strange scars on his forearms, an identity gradually emerges: a young man, an amateur cyclist, a supply of performance-enhancing drugs. But what led this man to his death? Cross mounts an investigation that will uncover jealousy, ambition and a family tearing itself apart - an investigation that could cost him his career....

Love it all

I really like everything about this series. The characters, story line, and especially the way Asperger’s/Autistic traits are portrayed, showing both the positive and negative aspects of neurodivergence. I hope to see more development of the supporting characters as the series progresses.

Genius

Careful with George Cross Mysteries. You WILL get hooked and WON’T be able to put them down.
Tim Sullivan writes in a way that sounds so real. There are no artifices, he writes, in a way, as his Cross character does everything: the obvious, the right way. His depiction of Cross’ autism is brilliant. As an adopted Bristolian, I also very much enjoy the background notes to the stories.
The performance is also brilliant, by the way.

Great story. Interesting characters

Really good story line with believable characters. Interesting to view a crime through the eyes of a detective with high functioning autism. Made me smile a lot- and had lots of twists and turns to keep it interesting. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

Amazing books, so smart, purer brilliance.

The characters are amazing so good, and a simple story line but beautifully written and told so pleased I found these books by chance a real surprise, and a joy to listen too.

Great story, great narration

I came across these stories in an Audible sale. Since I enjoy detective stories, I thought I'd take a chance. Set in Bristol, our eccentric Detective Cross, takes us on a clever journey to uncover the murderer. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and have another in the series already lined up. Shout out for the extremely good narrator too.

Brilliant!

Loved it! George is becoming one of my favourite detectives and im now fully invested in him.
One of the reviews left complains about excessive use of swearing. I didnt think there was much swearing at all, and when it was used, it was in keeping with the character.

I really love the narrator and his voice suits Cross. Im now off to buy book 3!

Keep them coming!

Detective Sergeant George Cross blinkered rational and single minded determination gets results again

This being the second novel about DS Cross I’m utterly hooked.the narration is perfect.
No spoilers but I love the pace of the story the intricate attention to detail that the George has due to his Aspergers syndrome.
if only this could be true and not fiction.
I hope there are police personnel who are just like him.
I think these novels would make a really good tv series. Come on Amazon!
and remember not everyone who is on the spectrum is like George.
It’s a spectrum after all.
Side note- my sons have Asperger’s and have some similar traits to Each other but ultimately are like chalk and cheese.
(now , saying that phrase would wind George up ! Wouldn’t it.)

Surprisingly good

I was dubious about another detective story featuring a main character with a back story that made it unlikely they would have a police career but found this manifestation to be just about acceptable. The story is excellent, the procedure pretty solid right down to the effect austerity has had on police work. The tale pushes the believability boundary but just stays onside resulting in a thoroughly entertaining read. I will definitely be buying the rest of the series.
