Summary

Riley Hayes, the playboy of the Hayes family, is a young man who seems to have it all: money, a career he loves, and his pick of beautiful women. His father, CEO of HayesOil, passes control of the corporation to his two sons; but a stipulation is attached to Riley's portion. Concerned about Riley's lack of maturity, his father requires that Riley 'marry and stay married for one year to someone he loves'.

Angered by the requirement, Riley seeks a means of bypassing his father's stipulation. Blackmailing Jack Campbell into marrying him for love suits Riley's purpose. There is no mention in his father's documents that the marriage had to be with a woman and Jack Campbell is the son of Riley Senior's arch rival. Win win.

Riley marries Jack and abruptly his entire world is turned inside out. Riley hadn't counted on the fact that Jack Campbell, quiet and unassuming rancher, is a force of nature in his own right.

This is a story of murder, deceit, the struggle for power, lust and love, the sprawling life of a rancher and the whirlwind existence of a playboy. But under and through it all, as Riley learns over the months, this is a tale about family and everything that that word means.

Absolutely brilliant...

I loved this story. It's so full of twists and turns. The narrator does an excellent job with all the different characters. He really did bring the story to life. I know this will be an audio that I will listen to again. I've also read the book and I just love the heartbreak and angst with a fantastic HEA.

So good

I loved everything about this, it's not my normal choice, I normally go for very dark books but this captured me right from the beginning sucking me in and holding me captive right to the end, I fell in love with Jack and Riley and most of the other characters and can't wait to continue with the rest of the series

Jack and Riley. The cowboy and the rich oil man.

The Heart of Texas by RJ Scott is one of my favorite series and the audible version is amazing. Narrator Sean Crisden does an amazing job with so many voices. Sexy ones, Australian ones, Texas slang, it's all done very well and makes the story even come more alive. The series contains 9 books all together and spreads over 10 years. The Hayes and the Campbells have an ongoing fuete and the new generation hardly knows what it started. Not to lose his place in his father's oilcompany, Riley needs to marry and stay married for a year. He has a free lifestyle with many hookups with man and women but to anger his father he sets out to marry the family rival Jack Campbell. They agree on a year contract with Riley paying the expensive hospital bills for Jack's sister Beth, who has a heart condition and is pregnant. They are a true match. Jack always has the means to calm Riley and to settle him and soon the contract becomes only a threat when their time is up. Riley's family is really something and will do everything to have the contract annulled. Even murder. In the end it is Riley's father who comes more or less to the rescue and family life can truly start. Soon their family is extended with children and so is the DD ranch with new business and cowboys. You will enjoy this journey and the love between Riley and Jack and the love for their family. It's full of adventures and some of them are with a bit of angst, but that makes it so enjoyable to read or to listen to. If I could give a higher score than 5 for both the story and the narrating I defenitely would.

Fabulous

I loved this series in book form. The setting, the characters and the turn of mystery and intrigue. Add in Sean Crisden's wonderful narrative and this becomes another must have firm favourite. Can't wait for the next instalment.

Romance and intrigue

A lovely little tale of marriage of convenience turning into true love with a bit of scandal and intrigue thrown in. Sean Crisden has a voice made for storytelling, he’s so good.

Owes a lot to Dallas the series.

Another Texas oil baron family drama series. An enjoyable book to read if you like soap operas.
