The advice we hear on perfectionism is always the same - let go of it! Forget it! Perfectionism is bad for you. But what if we've been looking at it all wrong? What if perfectionism is your superpower?
In The Perfectionist's Guide to Losing Control, psychotherapist Katherine Morgan Schafler says you don't have to stop being a perfectionist to be happy and fulfilled. Her smart, witty book is a new approach for women who are over the generic advice to 'find balance'.
Morgan Schafler's book identifies five distinct types of perfectionist - Classic, Parisian, Messy, Intense, and Procrastinating. As you identify your unique perfectionist profile, you'll learn how to manage each form of perfectionism to work for you, not against you. Beyond managing it, you'll learn how to embrace and even enjoy your perfectionism. Yes, enjoy!
With handy self-assessments and actionable advice tailored to the unique needs of each perfectionist type, The Perfectionist's Guide to Losing Control is the game-changing companion for women who dare to want more out of life.

A brilliant helpful starting point
I came to this book because of a recommendation from a friend, and my therapist said it would be helpful to explore perfectionism as a way to self explore. Every part of this book helped me touch upon points to expand, it opened my eyes to certain things I saw as broken or undesirable and changed my perspective. Id recommend this to anyone who is curious and use it as a guide to have conversations with people who you can speak to and/or your therapist if you have one.
On the audiobook format it is great and well read by the author, it feels like a friend or therapist explaining things very naturally. However for going back through chapters, I'm going to buy a hard copy as I think it would be more useful to flick through.

Great book
I hung on every word as the author may as well have been telling my life story! I’ve waited for this book without even knowing it. THANK YOU for shining a positive light on perfectionism. I can now see how I’m a messy perfectionist and how I have fallen into the maladaptive side a few times in my life. I will now channel my perfectionism for good. More please!

Beautiful 💗
I have just finished listening to this book and I found it beautiful, insightful and I feel I learned a lot, especially on self compassion which is something I now realise I took for granted. I loved Katherine’s voice, felt like an amazing therapy session and I think I’ll listen to this again for sure.

And just when I thought I was perfect.
I bought this audio book to give an insight into many of my friends and colleagues who I perceive as perfectionists. Little knowing I was one myself.
For me the greatest insight was in understanding that it is a lack of energy and not time that prevents me from moving forward.
A truly insightful and generous book that shines a clear light on perfectionism and how to use it in its best form.

Brilliant, a nuanced perspective
A well written (and read), insightful, helpful and nuanced perspective on perfectionism and mental wellness in general. She’s clearly thought deeply about this and I’m grateful this book entered my life.

read in print instead
i feel conflicted with this one. there are moments of pure enlightenment! and then it quickly flops back into writing that can only be described simply as - dull.
i'm glad i read it. i wish it was shorter. it would have been good to expand on the feminist and mental health complications of perfectionism. but the author acknowledges this. the points are interesting and sometimes even life-changing but the writing is flowery and distracts from this. i wonder how my experience was impacted by listening to this as an audio book, i think it would have been better to read this in print. i liked the quiz at the beginning and the practical tips at the end.
a good self-help book but what it lacks would have made it great.

Focuses only on women
Has some good takeaways. However it’s too feministic, and also uses too many unnecessary examples to everything she mentions so it gets boring. Had to skip a lot, which is a shame…
