About this listen

Only the best have access to the Elite Specializations of the Rangers. Will the Snow Panthers make it?

The war goes on in Norghana. The East supports the new King, while the West supports Arnold Olafstone, the legitimate heir to the crown. In the North the Wild of the Ice claim their lands. In the midst of the war, Lasgol and his teammates have graduated as Rangers.

They must decide whether to take the Specialization Test. If they do, and pass it, they will have access to training as Specialist Rangers and be able to opt for one of the elite specializations. For this they will need to go to a hidden, secret place: The Shelter. It is rumored to be somewhere special, secret and arcane.

Will Lasgol take the Specialization Test? Will he pass it? Will his friends? Who will make it and who will not? What new adventures are waiting for them at the Shelter?

A Continuation of A Truly Great Story

When you listen to a book it is all about the performance.. Great writing can be ruined by poor performance, John Banks reading is subtle, effortless and complementary to the world visionary writing of Pedro Urvi. Truly up there with greats like Stephen Fry and Bernhard Cribbins.

As for Pedro Urvi - This is is building into a story as great as authors like Tolkien, Rowling and Shami Stovall. Bring on the next book

Enjoyable lighthearted and pleasant .

I have left a review which I usually don’t bother to do . A pleasant well read book . Nothing negative in my humble opinion having listened to quite a number of books in this genre over the last few years . I enjoy a series which is quite lengthy to give a complete story although I am in the middle of the series I am enjoying it very much . Lighthearted , no unpleasant storylines .

Charming and addictive

I am really enjoying this series. It does feel like a guilty pleasure, as I think it is probably aimed at teenagers. The writing is particularly sophisticated and there are annoying gaps and sometimes illogical decision making by the characters to fit the desired plot. However it is charming, very easy to listen to, and exciting at times. Bring on the next book!

Terrible - The first few were fun but this is bad

The initial few books in this series were fun if rather badly written, I enjoyed them enough to want to carry on and see where the plot unfolded, but this is just dire.

Not only is the writing dreadful, the continuation of the story is boring. and lines by characters feel robotic & stupid.

This is a real line from this book:
"Lasgol was worried that Isgourd & the others were discriminating against the guide because they did not want to see diversity among the rangers. That was very wrong."

I get the message but come on, at least try to make it sound like a statement a character might make in a fantasy world. You couldn't get a more abrupt, immersion breaking, and comically out of place insert of modern politics.

Characters repeatedly spend paragraphs of dialogue on the most basic observations.
Often times it felt about as engaging as the following:
"It's a giant rock."
"Yes that is a really big rock"
"I wonder how that really big rock got here"
"The rock is really big, too big to move."
"Yes it's a big rock"

I recommend you stopping with the nice finale of Uthar's defeat and the end of Book 4.
