When 14-year-old Zoe Johnson doesn't come home on a Monday night in early December, the alarm bells in Kings Lake Central police station do not ring straight away - after all, she's from the Dockmills, one of the toughest estates in the town.

A wonderful series of books - great characters and wonderful narration - highly recommended as a series of books

Loved the whole story but having had such an enjoyable listen as the narrator was excellent too - just found the ending after all that enjoyment was a bit of a shame. However - as this was first DC Smith book I have read have since discovered there are a couple more. Thank goodness for that

Slow to start but the detective grows on you and then can’t bear to be parted from him. Well read and good plot.

A brilliant story brilliantly told what more can I say. I have listened to all the books in order and can't believe this the end. They are full of such wonderful well rounded characters brought to life by the narrator. DC is everything you want from a policeman and more, His sarcastic wit and old style policing a joy. he will be missed. How will his team go on without him.
Cannot praise this author highly enough will certainly look out for more audio books from him. Well worth a listen.

This series has grown on me so much even while I'm writing this review I'm downloading the next book. Surely there must be a TV series in stories of this quality but it might be best left in case you end up with a lesser product. I am dreading the end of the books because I'll be comparing everything with these books. Thanks so much.

Completely captivated by DC and his team. The stories and characters were all believable and well thought out. The narrator was a perfect choice. I feel like I’ve lost a friend.

I have this whole series and have loved these books .I hope this is not the end !!! This book was a great listen just like the others in the series .DC is a wonderful character a little old fashioned but an experienced detective sergeant investigating his last case before he retires.

Highly recommended detective story that every fan of crime fiction (as well as fans of other genres) will thoroughly enjoy. Very rarely does a series this good come along, in this or any other genre. By now, I've listened to all eight books in the series available so far: all equally good. So well written and just as well performed.
