Summary
Sometimes it’s the oldest wounds that cut deepest.
River Harp fell in love with her brother’s best friend, a boy who was practically part of the family…a boy who broke her heart before leaving town. Sixteen years later, he’s back for her brother’s funeral. And River wants nothing to do with the man. At least, that’s what she keeps telling herself.
Because there are problems in her life much bigger than Jackson’s return. Like the fact her brother is still alive—and she’s the only one who believes it. River will do whatever it takes to uncover the truth and find Ryker. Even if it means seeking help from the man she’s spent almost two decades getting over.
As a teen, Jackson Ford had one plan: get the hell out of Lindeman, Washington, away from his abusive drunk of a father, and never return. Fate had other plans, however, and now he’s back to bury Ryker, his Delta Force teammate. His brother in every way but blood.
At the funeral, she’s the first person he sees. The only person he sees. Walking away from River once was hard enough, even if it was for her own good. Walking away a second time may prove impossible…especially after he realizes she’s digging into her brother’s suspicious death.
When River’s search for answers puts her in the sights of dangerous men, Jackson will do anything and everything to keep her safe. Even if it means losing his heart—and his life—in the process.

Mercy Ring Book 1 - Jackson & River
Jackson and River are brought back together by a tragedy after years apart and sparks fly!
Although there are a couple of dark moments, this is a very easy listen. I usually prefer first person narration/ POV's but performance of Stella Bloom and Tim Paige in the lead roles works really well.
River is a well rounded character; her grief journey is dealt with sensitively and feels really genuine. Jackson has his own baggage and seeing him work through it after denying his feelings for so long gives him more dimension that your typical possessive alpha male.
This is Jackson and River's story and although its a standalone without a cliffhanger, it definitely feels more like a continuing series. We meet the characters for the follow up books in the series within this book and it sets up book two in a really organic way. I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the Mercy Ring guys' stories.

Awesome start
This author just gets better and better and her particular forte for me is her ability to start off a series with a serious bang.
I absolutely feel like I know the Mercy Ring boys, but I also got a wonderful book full of feelings and emotion throughout which gave me a storyline fraught with danger, a relationship built on a history of broken hearts and difficult decisions and a team forged in shared horrific experiences and walking away with various scars (both seen and unseen)….and Erik!!
Narrated wonderfully by Stella Bloom and Tim Paige, all the nuances of these characters were brought to life so well.
I loved all the relationships in this book. River and Ryker give me protective big brother vibes to be jealous ofJackson and River were just couple goals, with him so assured of her ability to succeed in the career she walked away from and so determined to protect her from herself yet understanding why she was making what he felt were bad decisions. River didn’t hesitate to grab the opportunity put in front of her to grasp a chance with the man she had loved for years, and boy did she grasp it. That shower scene in the gym had me needing a shower after listening to it! Definitely dark in places, this book brings it all in terms of steam, laughs, brotherhood, alpha protector men, suspense and drama and once started be warned you won’t be able to stop.

Jackson & River
Nyssa Kathryn brought us a suspenseful romance with River and Jackson’s story. There’s plot twists and turns, seggsy scenes a plenty, brotherhood and friendship plus small town feels.
Stella Bloom and Tim Paige could not have been more perfect as River and Jackson

Sizzling start to the new series!
5*
Loved the characters, loved the world, loved the steam level. It really was just an excellent book. There are parts that make you cry, and there are twists at every turn. Perfectly imperfect couple :)
Audible narration just takes it to the next level :)
