About this listen
Dr. Franco Columbu, internationally known bodybuilding champion, has written a book that provides a commonsense approach to training with weights - whether for competition or just to get into shape. Columbu is a two-time Mr. Olympia winner who first wrote this book in 1977, when it sold 500,000 copies. Creators Publishing has brought it back with the paperback, ebook, and audiobook.
In the audiobook, recorded with Rick Newcombe, cofounder of Creators Publishing, Franco answers many questions to update his training advice and tells stories about what life was like during the Golden Age of bodybuilding. The audiobook contains priceless stories about the young Franco and his best friend, Arnold Schwarzenegger, when they first arrived in America from Europe. The audiobook is loaded with useful information for getting in shape, and it is very inspiring for training!

The most informative audio book for bodybuilding.
Finished this book in a day. It had answered so many questions, without having to ask them

Fascinating book
This is really a 6 hour interview with Franco Columbu covering much of the history of modern bodybuilding and his experiences. As you would expect Arnold appears in many of the stories.
He has fascinating insights across all areas. His thinking around which exercises to do and when is really interesting. I found the various comments around steroids and other drugs very interesting.
One of the best stories is around how he got Sylvester Stallone ready for Rambo 2. I won’t spoil it by repeating it here.
I expect this would be better to listen to with his body building book to hand. He highlights a few things that he wrote 40 years ago that he later disagreed with - perhaps that should be published as a short note somewhere!
I note some of the other comments. It is pretty hard to understand him sometimes but the interviewers are very good. He doesn’t answer all the questions and rambles a lot and clearly doesn’t always use the right word in English - I loved his comments about going to look in Sylvester Stallone’s fridge and finding a French chef. The interviewer was puzzled because it really sounded like the chef was in the fridge!
There is also a fair bit of repetition. I guess the interview was conducted over a number of days.
Despite the performances I have rated this 5 based on the overall content and also the fact that Franco is the star and doing it himself.

Loved it
So glad that Franco narrated this book. A great conformation of my training and loved the bit about the red wine! Thanks Franco. Legend.

Could have been better.
Tad disappointed with the book. On reflection it should not have been an audio book. The contents did not come across as well as it’s intent. It’s a common knowledge that Franco and Arnold are best of friends, it therefore follows that there will be lots of praising towards Arnold. The book title is Winning Bodybuilding and should have refrained from over praising and referencing of Arnold and sticking to the subject. On that basis I have given it a low rating.

Disappointing, Franco is just a bad storryteller.
combined with the strong accent and repetitions throughout the book it just becomes a collection of conversations where he does not answer the question and stories that often finish without any point.
