Summary

The gods are back. Did you myth them?

You probably saw the press conference. Nine months ago, Zeus' murder catapulted the Greek gods back into public life. Now, the whole pantheon revels in new temples, casinos, and media empires - except Apollo. An overachiever with a bursting portfolio of godly duties, the amount of email alone he receives from rapacious mortals turns each day into a living hell.

Yet there may be hope, if only he can return Zeus to life! With the aid of Thalia, the muse of comedy and science fiction, Apollo will risk his very godhood to help sarcastic TV producer Tracy Wallace and a gamer geek named Leif - two mortals who hold the key to Zeus' resurrection. (Well, probably. Prophecies are tricky buggers.)

Yet, whoever murdered Zeus will certainly kill again to prevent his return. Can Apollo escape the murderer when he doesn't even know who they are? Can he do it before the muse gets cranky? Do the venomous bat-winged kittens terrorizing Nevada have anything to do with anything?

So much fun!

Laughed my way the whole way through.
Great fun even if you haven't got a good background in Greek mythology; but even more fun if you do. Wishing one day the Sequal will also be recorded in audiobook format. Here's hoping for another superbly read performance. 🙏🥰

Zany, witty, hilarious!

I really wasn't sure whether it was a bad idea to start listening to this, but I'm so glad I did! It helps to know a bit of Greek mythology beforehand.

The plot is zany, totally off the wall, and it really works. The cover illustration now makes sense too. Having a fantastic narrator that matches his performance to the writing style is the icing on the cake! I REALLY hope this author writes some more!

Surprisingly fun!

Picked this up via the Plus Catalogue (after a couple of disappointments with books from there) and was pleasantly entertained and amused for the whole run time. Plot moves at a good pace, characters are pretty well defined with their own quirks and motivations and most importantly it manages to avoid the sloppy sexism, tropes, and clichés of so much of this type of humorous fantasy writing. A little fourth wall breaking adds an extra bit of fun. If I’d bought it with a credit it would’ve been well worth it.

Travis Baldree does well with the narration; he has a good range of voices for the characters and seems to be enjoying the performance so it’s a job well done overall. For my personal taste it’s maybe a little ‘one volume’ and not quite enough dynamic variation to match the scenes so it’s just short of the full marks. (I’d love to hear Scott Aiello or Luke Daniels take this one on).

If you want an entertaining romp that’s easy on the ears give this a try 👍🏻

A Godly adventurer

I really enjoyed this book, the plot what is very early Pratchett-est which is no bad thing.

And the performance while it took two chances to get by the end of the book you couldn't imagine anyone doing a better narration.

Engaging and funny.

Excellent book and performance. The story is witty throughout with just enough quality plot points to offset the nonsense humour, asides to the reader and general silliness of it all. The Greek legends are artfully repurposed, particularly the Muses and the Erinyes who are the best part of the book, along with the razor wing death kitties.

Subversion of many expectations

This book likes to make fun of the listener, sometimes entire sections is dedicated only to make fun of people making assumptions about the various situations.
Its fun, hard to predict, the narrator is good, and its overall just a fun listen.

There could be more about the flying kittens as seen on the cover (They hunt in packs), but they are in there, and is considered far more dangerous than Hydra's, gorgons, and other of the various monsters within.
Because the flying kittens of death is just so cute, they are hard to kill. even though they are super dangerous.
