About this listen
How to help your child overcome social anxiety without stressing out, even if you’re feeling anxious yourself.
One day, I was at a restaurant with my wife, and as we were finishing up our meal, our server handed us a survey form. Realizing neither of us had a pen, my wife told me to ask the server if we could borrow one to fill out the form. Instead of doing this, I walked to the parking lot, retrieved a pen from our car, and walked back to our table. It would’ve been easier to just borrow a pen, but I opted for the route that involved less social interaction. I did this automatically, without even thinking. Avoiding social interaction had already become a learned habit by the time I realized what I was doing.
I would’ve probably continued avoiding things that made me feel uncomfortable and never faced my dread of being in social situations. However, when I saw all my struggles mirrored in my daughter, I knew that if I don’t deal with myself first, I’d never be able to help her navigate life as a socially anxious human being. Suddenly, the harsh light of reality didn’t seem so daunting anymore.
According to a 2022 Anxiety and Depression Association of America survey, out of the 40 million adults in the US that suffer from a form of anxiety, only 36.9 percent of them seek treatment.
In this book, you will discover:
- How to help your child cope with anxiety when you have anxiety yourself.
- How to recognize social anxiety in children.
- Differences of social anxiety in children, teens, and adults.
- Pitfalls of perfectionism.
- Foods that affect anxiety.
- Rewiring for self-confidence.
- Making social interactions less stressful.
The process of overcoming social anxiety might seem like a terrifying or energy-depleting one, but once we learn the coping skills we need to become more functional in any social interaction, getting out there, building meaningful relationships, and enjoying life to the fullest will make it all worth it.

What a great confidence booster!
I love the author's story included. It allows you to connect and feel inspired. The author has written a well-researched book to alleviate social anxiety and how to aid children with it. Understanding and separating from our emotions to know if they are helping or harming us is one important take for me. Sometimes it's because of a lack of confidence, while for others, it can be because of a fear of others, but you have to understand that it's simply a hurdle that needs to be overcome to advance in life. Dealing with anxiety is incredibly challenging. Surprisingly, some people live with anxiety their whole lives without even realizing it. The Spotlight Method is an innovative technique that helps the listener understand how to shift the focus away from their insecurities and instead concentrate on their strengths and the present moment. The book goes into why we have such social anxiety, and it's good always to be reminded this is such a common problem in the world. I recommend this

Break the Limits
This book will help to identify and provide tools to overcome social anxiety. By putting the spotlight on flawed thoughts and feelings we’ll better learn to deal with them. Understanding and separating from our emotions to know if helping or harming us is one important take for me. Diagnosis and treatment is also key to find root causes, and to form a plan of action. Methods to be more functional and healthier habits, both physical and mental are the tools that will counteract social anxiety for our loved ones and all those affected by it.

Awesome Book
I have long suffered from social anxiety so I got this book to see if it could offer any good insights and if there were any new coping strategies and I am so glad I did. The book immediately touches on some of the things I find myself doing such as sitting near the back or a room or near an exit so immediately I wanted to hear more. The book goes into why we have such a society anxiety and it's good to always be reminded this is such a common problem in the world. As the book progresses it goes into the strategies and in chapter 6 it explains how specific breathing patterns can alleviate the anxiety and I plan on giving this method a real go. Other techniques described are cognitive reframing which is a tool you can use in any area of your life. It's packed with good information and I really recommend it. Well narrated to. A must read if you suffer from this terrible affliction

Really thorough and useful
I love a lot of things about this book. I especially love where the author decided to start - giving definitions and statistics. I have always wondered why anxiety is such a real thing when you interact with people personally, and yet, at least in my corner of the world, it is often ignored and viewed as a non-issue on a social level. This book helped me grapple with some of those reasons. I really enjoyed the chapter on understanding emotions as well.

Very Informative and Instructive.
The audiobook extensively discusses the triggers, links, severities, symptoms, and effects of Social Anxiety Disorder. The symptoms in children, teens, and adults include fear of the limelight, overwhelming self-consciousness, low self-esteem, fear, discomfort, and irrational anxiety caused by social interaction. The Spotlight Method as a strategy in helping to address and overcome the emotional challenge involves understanding our emotions and putting a stop to or controlling them. Specifically, we take control by catching the negative emotions as soon they come; identifying the source of the emotion; recognizing the thought process; reframing the negative thoughts, and giving self to consistently practice the steps.
The control strategy is very instructive, and it is a technique I will gladly adopt. It is an easy exercise and a great way to recoup your self-esteem, self-awareness, and confidence.
