Pivot the Professional Development for Teachers

I enjoyed this narration, and the well-written information was thought-provoking. This audiobook opens up an interesting discussion concerning educating a neurodivergent child. Specific learning disabilities are challenging to identify sometimes and can go unreported for years. As parents, we don’t want to hear the words connected to a disability. We must know that a disability like cancer does not mean we can’t eliminate the condition. Sometimes medication or procedures are necessary to eliminate life-threatening conditions. The same is true inside the classroom and at home. This book provided a learning journey to understand better how to help these students in my classroom.

Autism spectrum disorder, or ASD, includes what used to be called Autistic Disorder, Asperger syndrome, or Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not Otherwise Specified, all of which affect a person’s social and emotional skills and nonverbal communication. ASD has many similarities to ADHD, but there are also differences between the two.

ADHD and ASD are neurodevelopmental disorders (brain development has been affected in some way). That means both conditions/disorders affect the central nervous system, which is responsible for movement, language, memory, and social and focusing skills. Several scientific studies have shown that the two conditions often coexist, but researchers have not yet figured out why they do. Classroom activities that support a community classroom design and strategies for teaching students can help make learning accessible to all students. In 20 years of teaching, not enough professional development has been given to the general education teacher to help support students with ASD or ADHD and other brain development disorders. I found the information about the three types of self-control: impulse, emotional, and movement control to be the most helpful.

Great book

I like the thought provoking approach of this book. A girl on my team has just been diagnosed with adhd so this book has been super helpful. It has opened my mind and given me a great perspective on the feelings and actions of someone with adhd or somewhere else on the neurodivergent scale. The author includes studies and other scientific research. I have definitely learnt a lot

Understanding ND vs NT and Symptoms

I have two autistic nephews, and this book gave me incredible insight into how they feel and why they react the way they do. It helped me understand their primary communication issues, the way their brains function, and why they react in so many situations. The clarity and relief I gained from this book was astounding. They have always had food issues and now I understand why. Noise issues are a constant problem and again now I understand why this causes them to feel uncomfortable and stem. Knowing why gave me a true sigh of relief. For anyone working with autistic people, I highly recommend this book.

An empathetic approach

I love how the author adopted a more personal, empathetic approach to the information in the book, instead of just highlighting the facts. This gave the read a more nuanced approach, and it became easier to understand the need for more empathy, understanding, and individualized approach, which the author calls for.

This book highlights the unique strengths of ADHD, which is rarely the case in most online materials. This is a wonderfully humanistic approach, and it made the read so much better.

Great Book On This Neurotype

This is a good read for parents and educators of Neuro divergent children. It is absolutely packed with useful information. I found chapter three fantastically interesting on three extra senses that are related to the condition and hints and tips to help control the issues that can arise due to these. Chapter 5 is all about words and Language and how to use these constructively and induce good change. Chapter seven on mindset I found useful and you can apply these tips to any situation. I particularly like the analogy of the tennis player/match because it's absolutely true. The book is well narrated and I would recommend those wanting to learn more about the Neurotype

An absolute must listen!

I was always under the impression that we only had 5 senses, but with this audiobook I discovered that we have 8. Who knew? Anyway, I have seen not just parents with children with ADHD but people that have ADHD and as parents, we don’t want to hear the words connected to a disability. I have never liked to call someone with ADHD as having a disability. That is just not how I see someone. My opinion.

Author Kim Gallo has written a very insightful book and the narration of this audiobook is very easy to listen to. Adrian Newcastle is awesome. I thank the author for sharing her journey with ADHD with her child. I know that her intention of this audiobook is to try and help as many people as possible, and I truly believe she is on the right track. Great Job!
